Commonwealth Master's Scholarship Nomination Interview in Abuja. My Experience by luemz(m): 7:25pm On Nov 14, 2021
The Federal Scholarship Board which is a nominating agency for the just concluded Commonwealth Master's Scholarship application round that ended on the 1st of November, has released the schedule for the nomination interview.

The interview is scheduled to hold in Abuja. it's quite sad that all those that successfully applied are required to travel down to Abuja irrespective of their location.

Someone like me I'm yet to complete my transportation fare that I think I'd need to embark on the journey.

Please past scholars and beneficiaries of this scholarship, or those that have attended the interview before share with us your experiences.
What should one expect in the interview?
What kind of questions?

Do you think the process is transparent enough?
Is it worth traveling for?
Your general advise

Thank you.

UPDATE

By God's grace, I was able to attend the interview. I was supposed to interview on the second day (30th November 2021); however, I was already in Abuja by Saturday, so I could hear the opening ceremony and get to have insights about the whole process from those that would be interviewing on the first day.

Accreditation
on the first day, accreditation was held at the Hotel (Nanet Suites or Rosebud Hotel or Ekiti house). On the second day, accreditation took place at the FSB office secretariat before you'd go back to the hotel for the interview. I was not aware of this, so I paid for double transportation. My saving grace was that I left home very early, so I had enough time to spare in knowing what to do.

They had about seven accreditation/interview panels depending on your intended course of study. You'd be given two forms to fill.
They'd check for your important documents as listed in the Announcement.
Transcripts, certificate, NYSC certificate, passport photograph, EAS form print out, evidence of reference submission, admission offer etc.

after confirming your documents, they'd stamp and sign the forms. you're then to make a photocopy of the forms and then proceed for the interview at the hotel.

The interview

When you arrive the interview venue, you'd go to your assigned Panelist. you'd be required to fill the attendance form in order of arrival and geopolitical zone.

When it's your turn, you'd be called into the interview room. I had 3 persons (A man and two women) in the interview board. they appeared very friendly and helped me calmed my nerves.

It seemed like only one was a professor. she was the one that really asked me questions basically about what my research interests was and what I hope to achieve through the study.

The other panelists were focused on checking my documents, proof of community service, publications, admission offers etc.

After questions about my research interests and possible outcome of my study, the other panelists asked me general current affairs questions related to Commonwealth, minister of education, and the COVID 19 pandemic.

Lastly, they proceeded to ask me about my employment history and what I currently do.
My interview lasted roughly about 20 minutes.

General Tip Based on my Experience
1. Arrive the Venue Early
arriving early would give you time to settle down and do what what you're required to do gently without much pressure.

I had a friend that while I was done with accreditation and was already heading to the interview venue, he was still trying to find the FSB office under pressure.

The earlier you go, the sooner you get to interview (I was the 4th person to interview on my day).
As at 10pm, some persons were yet to be interviewed. you can imagine the mental stress and discouragement as you wait for such long hours.

2. Your Documents
Make sure you go with the required documents and awards, professional certifications, proof of employment, publications, evidence of community service, etc.
Anything you can lay your hands on, just go with it.
all these have their points and could help you stand out amongs others.

3. Know your proposed study thoroughly
For the duration of my interview session, this was literally the only thing we discussed about. so you should know it, what problems you hope to solve with your proposed study.

4. Know basic current affairs
Be familiar with common current affairs related to the commission, commonwealth, ministry of education, etc.

5. Pray
In all, call on God to favour you and grant you success.

Best wishes

I'm yet to hear from the board. I learnt the CSC would reach out to the successful candidates in due time around June/July.

Out of curiosity, I decided to mail CSC and FSB to know the stage of the selection process.

FSB informed me that they've sent the names of nominated candidates to CSC and that CSC would inform selected candidates in due time.

However, I think it would have been really nice if FSB had informed those that have progressed to the next stage. This anxiety is something else.

I have attached pictures of the response of both CSC and FSB.

I wish myself all the best.

I really do not know why the FSB decided to withhold Information about candidates whose names were nominated. some nominating agencies already informed the candidates they nominated.

Anyways, June/July is almost here. CSC would reach out to those that were successful.

I’m sorry to hear that, surely you’d come stronger and get selected next year by God’s grace. I believe the application would be opened September. I am yet to receive any email regarding my outcome. Fingers crossed.

Yes I’ve been checking every corner of my mail every 2 minutes everyday since May. I actually emailed CSC on 8th July, 2022. They mentioned they're currently assessing applications and would update applicants on the outcomes shortly. And on 8th August, that was Monday, which was a month after my earlier mail, so I sent them another mail to find out if the outcomes are out. They haven’t responded to that yet. However it’s the Commonwealth shared scholarship that I saw people had had update of outcome since early June on LinkedIn.

I’m hopeful.

hope CSC respond to you soon enough...

well, the person who shared her success in a WhatsApp group, I specifically asked her if FSB was her nominating agency and if she was in Abuja for the interview.. she answered in the affirmative ...

Also may I add that, even the shared, the CSC has given feedback for unsuccessful applications. The both mails were less than an hour apart...

In all, once again, I wish you success.

It's very a difficult situation. They previous send it as an acknowledgement email. I will advise him to check his browser history, he may be able to trace it.

it's the completed form of your application...

in the previous application windows, Commonwealth sends a copy of your submitted application to your mail. but this year they didn't.

Aside from the acknowledgement that popped on when you clicked submit, there's really nothing.

I don't know how you can get this document now.

After submitting, the notification you receive on the CSC website had a link imbedded, once you open that link you can access the document and save it. Also CSC didn’t send a mail confirming successfully submission like previous masters application windows however for shared scholarship they did.
