Bank Says I'm Owing Them, But I'm Not. Please Help! by Raxxye(m): 6:36pm On Apr 28, 2023
I opened accounts (Savings and Current) with First Bank sometime in 2011 in a branch outside my State of residence. I have mostly been using the savings account and not the current.
Fast-forward to 2021, I applied for a loan in Zenith Bank (where my salary account is domiciled), but I was told I could not get the loan bc Credit Bureau report run on my account indicates that I am owing First Bank about 800 Naira. I initially thought it was the negative balance that was showing in the current acc at the time, so I made deposit into the account to offset that negative balance, then requested for a letter of non-indebtedness. The letter was given to me, but when when I took it to Zenith Bank, and the credit bureau test was run again (according to them), it still showed I am still owing.
All effort I have made to resolve the issue has yielded no result. I have approached several First Bank branches and spoken with their marketing team; no solution.
The customer service officer at one of the branches said she had sent a mail to First Bank headquarters to check and resolve the issue, but up till now, the issue has got no attention from the headquarters. It's still pending; a mail she sent on the 12th of January this year!
At Zenith Bank, my account officer makes it look like I'm not doing enough to clear the debt. I have been going back-and-forth between First Bank and Zenith for almost two years now on this same issue.
I really need the loan to execute a project. As a civil servant with very meagre pay, it's loans like these that help us in executing projects.
I have contacted First Bank through all available social media platforms, including twitter, Facebook, email, etc. They only apologize and tell me to contact them via a DM, and that's where it ends. I have also called FIRSTCONTACT, but it's been all to no avail. It has been very frustrating.
Bankers in the house, please advise me on what to do.
Mods, please help me move it to the front page to see if I can get the needed help from Nairalanders!

Call out first back on Twitter or Facebook. They are not serious

I have contacted them severally on Twitter and on Facebook. All they do is apologize in the public platform and request that we communicate via DM, but that is where it ends. They don't respond to anything afterwards.
The best they did was advise me to walk into any First Bank branch and lay the complaint, that it would be resolved. But nothing has been forthcoming with the several branches I have visited.

send mail to FBN and this time copy CBN and NDIC, They will resolve it in 24hrs, and if they fail to resolve it they will give you case number. You then escalate the case, that is, you will use the case number to report them to CBN and NDIC. Either way you case will be resolved.

Funny enough, this is same thing my account officer at Zenith Bank advised that I do. He said I should walk in to the Manager's office at First Bank with "red eyes". But it sounded funny and unprofessional.
I did actually go to see a/the Manager on a certain day, but the woman they showed me as the Branch manager said she was only managing Operations. She said there was another manager for Marketing whose duty it was to resolve my issue. She actually suggested that I take the complaint to another branch since her own branch one was not helping me much. I just weak that day!
First Bank matter just tire me!

I sent a mail to CBN months ago. They responded that they can only attend to my case if it has been previously logged at the First Bank, and I have been given Case Number.
When I went back to the Customer Desk officer who told me she had sent a mail to First Bank headquarters on the issue, to ask if she could give me a tracking number, she looked at me like I was looking for trouble. There was obviously no tracking or case number!

I contacted Credit Bureau via Twitter. They were asking for something like Subscription or a certain payment to run my credit report.
I have recently found out that there are actually 3 of them.
The matter has been confusing and frustrating!

Just grab one of their system that they are using to work or you grab one bundle of cash in the counter and see how they will answer you sharp sharp.

resend it this time around, don't mail CBN and NDIC just copy them, copying the two regulators will make them work on your case because they know the case is being monitored, don't bother to go to their bank branch, some of their workers are something else although some them are good oh. I've used this tactic to solve so many bank cases.
