ae-funai kicks-off 2023 tree planting campaign with a call to preserve the environment
As part of activities marking the 2023 International day for tree planting which is globally observed annually on the 17th of June, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-AIike, Ebonyi State, has commenced another round of tree planting exercise with a call to preserve the environment.
The activity kicked-off at the Faculty of Humanities, where some fruits and ornamental trees were planted by staff and students.
While declaring the campaign open, the Acting Director, Campus-Green Initiative and the Coordinator of the exercise, Arc. Ifeanyi N. Chukwu, said so far about thirty three thousand trees have been planted in the university, ranging from avenue, shade, fruit, ornamental trees and shrubs, adding that the motive is to keep the dream of making the university a campus-in-a-garden afloat.


Reeling out the benefits of tree planting, the Director said it combats desertification and drought, helps to combat global warming by absorbing carbon dioxide, while releasing oxygen back into the air, more importantly, providing a conducive and beautiful environment for staff, students and visitors.
The Dean, Faculty of Humanities, Dr Onuorah Nweke in his remarks thanked the Campus-Green Initiative for kick-starting the exercise in his Faculty, and also providing the trees and promised to nurture them to growth.
He also pledged a financial support of Thirty thousand naira to the Initiative which he donated on behalf of the faculty.



Other members of the faculty also joined in the tree planting campaign. They include: Dr Bright Nwammuo, Dr. Hillary Eze, Dr Chinyere Nkama and Dr. Ifeoma Nweze. Others were the Faculty officer, Dr Williams Osatunyi, Mr Emeka Enwelum, and a student representative, Sampson Jerry.
