APC Stakeholder Tackles Matawalle over Assault on NEF, Cautions Tinubu

Tracereporters -Nigeria's Defence Minister for State Alhaji Dr. Bello Matawalle has received more knocks over repeated insensitive statement against Northern Elders Forum.

Barrister Muhammed .M Abubakar speak via a statement made available to Tracereporters, Abubakar use the opportunity to appeal to all Northerners particularly supporters of President Tinubu who feel strong about the Minister’s outburst not to worry as this offensive view on northern elder’s forum does not reflect how our party the APC or the President views elders anywhere in the country.

He said "I strongly advised that Bello Matawalle should withdraw his comments against the northern elder’s forum and tender an unreserved apology with immediate effect and President Tinubu should be cautioned on Matawalle’s action."

'It’s no doubt that with his injurious statement against the northern elders for the second time, Matawalle no longer respect not only the region, its elders and values but the party and Government that appointed him.

'Recall that, during the 2023 electioneering period, Matawalle said "those who are calling themselves leaders of the North are liars, deceivers and cheaters”, this careless statement and other blunders caused him his seat in the 2023 general elections.

'By repeating similar, needless and regrettable statement, as a minister in Tinubu’s Government, Matawalle is undoubtedly trading President Tinubu’s seat in 2027.

'Matawalle is neither the Minister of Information nor the Spokesperson of the President, why should he have uttered this costly and denigrating statement knowing fully well its grievous implications to the administration and its political consequences? He might have ulterior motives, and self agenda which the Presidency should be warry of and cautiously watch with keen interest.

'In fact, prominent northerners who meant well for President Tinubu, his administration and the north have separately condemned and frowned at Matawalle’s outburst, highlighting its consequences but instead of him to withdraw honourably the obnoxious statement, Matawalle sponsored some riff raffs to attack them and say more damaging words on the North and its people.

'In a well articulated write up tagged; ‘How not to scuttle Tinubu’s second term chance’, Ambassador Aminu Iyawa said, “The confrontational manner in which Matawalle took on the NEF, was certainly a recipe for disaster for the administration. Certainly, is not in our strategic interest to put our party the APC in a situation where we create hordes of enemies because of the utterances of some desperate people in cabinet who want to abuse power of their office and then by 2027, we begin to run from pillar to post to court these same people for reconciliation, by which time it would be too late. Indeed, the situation, if not carefully handled, will cost Mr President northern support”.

Also, in a statement, he personally signed and issued to newsmen in Abuja, on Sunday, Sen Marafa, said "the abusive statement issued by the Minister of State against NEF if not carefully handled can affect President Tinubu's 2027 electoral fortunes" continuing Sen Marafa called on Mr Matawalle "to withdraw without delay, the abusive statement and offer unreserved apology to Northern Elders and Northerners in general".

Instead of attacking the northern elders, Matawalle should have reeled out the many achievements, programs, polices and projects of President Tinubu in the North and the country as a whole in just one year as a justification for them to support his master Instead of regretting.

He said calling the elders of the region, with the highest votes paperweight and a burden was a great disservice to President Tinubu, who is working tirelessly hard to address the numerous challenges facing all segments and sectors of the country.

At the moment, he said "what the President needs from all his appointees is maximum support and informed not blind loyalty or sycophancy" and from the opposition, " a constructive criticism that will help him to actualise the Renewed Hope Agenda, conceived to return the country to the path of progress and prosperity"

I concurred with Ambassador Iyawa and Senator Marafas pragmatic articulation.

I wish to use this opportunity to appeal to all Northerners particularly supporters of President Tinubu who feel strong about the Minister’s outburst not to worry as this offensive view on northern elder’s forum does not reflect how our party the APC or the President views elders anywhere in the country.

I strongly advised that Bello Matawalle should withdraw his comments against the northern elder’s forum and tender an unreserved apology with immediate effect and President Tinubu should be cautioned on Matawalle’s action.
