The Drainage Enforcement and Compliance Department of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources @LasgMOE has issued a 48-hour contravention notice to owners of properties built on Right-Of-Way of drainage channel in Jakande Estate, Oke-Afa, Isolo.

This is in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017 and the renewed drive of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu @jidesanwoolu administration’s effort to ensure free flow of rainwater and prevent flooding across the State.

Make dem no later shout tribalism.

After dealing with them, go for the buildings under electric wires. The law has always been there but inconsiderate humans are building houses under electric wires. Some even carve roofs around electric poles, which clearly shows that the poles were there before the buildings were started.

But the government should also jail all the ministry of lands workers that signed documents for those buildings. Don't punish only one person for an offense committed by many.

Sanwo-Olu should pay attention to what happens in the ministry of lands. They are not transparent in that office.

this is very true. while Nigerians are quite mad, there is active and passive collusion from the Min of Lands and the Town Planning offices.

One crucial question is, what were the goverment authorities doing when these guys were sand filling the area and built houses on it?

Looking at the map, I support the demolition.

U always wonder what's wrong with some Land buyers In Lagos. I'm shocked it took this long for Lagos state government to demolish all the house built on the carnal in Oke-Afa.
I hope the people around the bridge linking Jakande in Isolo and Isheri-Oshun are taking notes too .
The madness the people around that area are displaying in sand filling swamps and carnal paths is on another level.
I'm sure the next set of caterpillars will roll into that area very soon.
Please land owners, always try to visit the Surveyor General office in Alausa to chart a land before purchase or at least employ a surveyor to chart the land before purchase.
There's no ignorance in Law, don't suffer huge losses whilst trying to purchase cheap land and then spend a fortune to sand fill it.
I use this opportunity to please ask the Lagos state Ministry of Environment to publish all the carnal paths in Lagos on their website, and if possible with their cordinates.
I believe this will go a long way in helping unsuspecting buyers know where to avoid whenever they want to purchase a land in Lagos state.
God bless Nigeria.
P.s pLs Governor Sanwo-olu should try try to build a bridge that will connect Jakande estate in Isolo to either Ago-palace or to a place called chemist bus stop in Ago-palace.
People suffer everyday trying to get home cos of the traffic at the Jakande gate every day.

the lagos state government is in the right on this matter and should take every necessary measure to rid the canal of anything and everything blocking it. but it should not just stop there as there are government officials who ensured that the law against building on the canal was contravened. it will an injustice to just demolish those houses and the government officials who gave government approval for such contraventions are still walking free and waiting for the next innocent nigerian to defraud

Nothing is happening in the ministry of lands that is not happening in other states... People like to cut corners most times.
Here in my area in Port Harcourt someone sand fill the water ways and started building on the land, the LGA and state officials have been to the site and marked it, but guess what? The building is now on the 3rd floor... I am sure the government officials will not come back until that project is completed.

Ahh.

That’s traversing Okota, Ejigbo, Ajao estate, Oke Afa and several other communities. Some other canals have been taken over by citizens who built on them and sand filled them. An example is the canal connecting Ikotun and Ejigbo.

Yesterday I was at Ikorodu and saw plenty policemen waiting to enforce it there.

Government can encourage water transport in some of those areas as a way to decongest the roads.

who are the saboteurs you are referring to? is it the landlords or the lagos state government officials that because of their selfish interests decided to look the other way when these houses where being built?
