The importance of Local Government Areas in the development of the grassroots cannot be overemphasized and some of which are; Local government is responsible for a range of vital services for people and businesses in defined areas. Among them are well known functions such as social care, schools, housing and planning and waste collection, but also lesser known ones such as licensing, business support, registrar services and pest control amongst others. In other words, local governments play critical roles in the Nation building.

The question is when will the Kwara State Government flag off the Local Government Election in the State?

The election is long overdue.

One would have thought that the Governor who is also the Chairman of the Govenor's Forum would have held election in the last five (5) years in the State. But none yet.

Whereas, the under listed States have held elections in their Local Government Areas at various times in the last five years: Oyo, Gombe, Edo, Delta, Taraba, Sokoto, Plateau, Yobe, Osun, Adamawa, Ebonyi and Enugu amongst others.

As the leader of the Governor's Forum, our amiable Governor in Kwara State should flag off the LG election without further delay in order to show leadership by example.

So many Aspirants showed interest in the past in the LG election but they were disappointed and totally disillusioned. They spent money on posters, they moved round from place to place but all to no avail.

Despite the disappointment, some of them now use phrases such as; The leading Chairmanship aspirant, a Foremost Chairmanship aspirant and the Best Man for the job amongst others.

Those who are in charge of the election should endeavour to communicate with Kwarans why their is delay in the conduct of the election.

Having elected Chairmen at the Sixteen Local Government Areas (LGA) of the State will bring dynamism, creativity, innovation, sense of belonging, accelerated development to the various LGAs.

The Governor should please, flag off election in the LGAs as soon as possible for history and posterity sake.
