Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu, may have adopted a two-prong response to the decision by Police authorities to send him on a one-year course at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, near Jos, Plateau State.

On the one hand, Ribadu has been on the trail of the President, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, tagging around him to Kano on Saturday, where the latter had gone to attend the wedding of the daughter of the National Security Adviser, Aisha Muktar, and following him to Katsina, his home state, on Sunday. Ribadu’s mission: Seeking audience with President Yar’Adua, with the plea that he would wish to be retired from the Police Force, on condition he is allowed to continue his headship of the EFCC. The EFCC Act allows a retired police officer to head the Commission.

President Yar’Adua did not grant Ribadu audience.

On the other hand, Ribadu is reportedly instigating foreign donors and missions against the Yar’Adua administration, by sending messages to donor agencies requesting them to put pressure on the President to back off removing him from the EFCC or face international isolation. Intelligence reports indicate that the messages were intercepted by International Police Organisation (Interpol).

The reports also allege†that Ribadu has removed from his office all petitions against former President Olusegun Obasanjo, including the one by the Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL), ostensibly to shield him (Obasanjo) from probe. Ribadu faces allegations of acting out the script of Obasanjo, a view strengthened by his failure to probe the former president and his cronies despite a stream of petitions demanding such.

Aso Rock is silent on the plan to send Ribadu on course, but is believed to support the routine exercise, and prominent Nigerians have warned against indiscipline if Ribadu evades the course.

Until now, even as an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Ribadu has not attended any major police training, and the one in Kuru would be his first.

Talk is in the air that the State Security Service (SSS) has an incriminating dossier on Ribadu, but that its former Director General turned down the demand for his probe.

Ibrahim Lamorde, Director of Operations at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), is also scheduled to attend another course, alongside other senior police officers, at the Police Staff College in Jos.

These are all the works of ANTI-GOOD NIGERIA PLC.

Just one thing is clear if nothing else. RIBADU's EFCC has done more to the upliftment of Nigeria and confidence in Nigeria than all the governments including the ministry of information put together.

Before EFCC it is steal steal and corruption and nobody to challenge the corrupt executhieves.
I am not surprised about Yar A'dull and cronies actions because the fly is always is the biggest supporter of the open wound person.

I WILL REPEAT THAT NOT IN THE HISTORY OF NIGERIA HAS ANY MAJOR PUBLIC OFFICE HOLDER, GOVERNORS AND IGP BROUGHT TO OPEN COURT, PROSECUTED AND CONVICTED BY INDEPENDENT JUDGES NOT RIBADU OR OBJ JUDGES.

All those story about Ribadu blackmailing FGN is the usual press propaganda by corrupt politicians especially the ex-governors like IBORI.

What they are trying to do is to throw so much fake mud and story and at a point hoping that rumours and lies start to look like facts.

Yar A'dull not having the gut to speak with RIBADU is a clear indication that mr. president is very confused because EFCC chairman is directly responsible to him and not to the IGP. Infact the Act establishing this knew that police are no good and that is the reason the Act did not place EFCC under either the NPF or the office of the AGF to avoid being supressed or compromised.

I think Yar A'dull is a big time joke, unfortunately he is being hiding under the guise of being honest and humble but no politicians in Nigeria ie ver like that, you either know your onions like OBJ and be called bully or you don't and get pushed around by some stupid AGF whose job before he was appointed to be AGF is to defend people like IBORI.

To hell with shielding people in public lives from declaring their assets and the law should be retrosspective so that people like IBORI and all the others including OBJ, IBB etc come and declare their assets before and during their time in office because the amount of monies they now have is mind boggling.

They can shout and make noise and all sort of innuendos and try to cast aspertion on the intergrity of RIBADU, he will forever remain in the minds of all Nigerians as the man who did all the best to salvage the image of NIgerians. May God bless him.

I wil even go further to say that RIBADU should form a political party and contest the 2011 elections and let us humilate the thieving executhieves who continue to rape Nigerians openly.

I salute Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. He said it on CNN when Femi Oke took the spotlight on Corruption in Africa. Nuhu said "when you fight Corruption, Corruption fights back".

His removal is corruption fighting back. Those pointing at Obj anyhow is corruption fighting back.

One of the best things in OBT administration is the EFCC and the Fight on Corruption. And Mallam Nuhu Ribadu led the war gallantly. Governors that were seen with bags of money in the UK some eight years back had the courage to say weting concern you in those days. Na my state money and no only them can talk. Now no governor will admit you saw them with bags of money like that as it is now clear to their corrupt minds that they will be labelled as corrupt and it can lead to charges against them. Thanks to the Leadership of OBJ and NUHU on this.

I usually respect other people opinion and I respect your's above.

But I like to point out to you the contradiction in your statement which I have highlighted in bold and italics about Yar A'dull being the best thing that has ever happen to Nigerians. may be you meant to say RIBADU because that will only be the only consistent with the overrall opinion.

I suspected that you may be a youngman in age or history. Yar A'dull has spent 7 months in office and very people have any idea which directions he is heading and my instinct is that he himself is unsure at this point.

To put it in proper perspectives, General Murtala Ramat Muhammad of blessed memory a military head of State has hit the ground running just days when he assumed power (even though he came to power in a military coup)and he only spent 6 months and history recorded him as a great leader.

God forbid if our President were to go today what will history record about him. The answer CONFUSION
Re: Ribadu Blackmails The FGN by denex: 8:25pm On Jan 01, 2008
Well, thank God Ribadu is learning that you cannot do the public any good just by being a good guy. You have to also be a good politician, and the fastest way to get into politics is through publicity.

Good one for him. I know it's not this salary that keeps him holding on to the job, it's simply for the sake of doing it right to the end. The man is an extremist and those are the kinds of people we need in Nigeria at this age of the Nation. People that are die-hards doing what they do just because they believe in it.

Much i do about Ribadu-

300 EFCC policemen shun meeting with IG - I am still in charge at EFCC, says Ribadu
Chris Agbambu and Idowu Samuel, Abuja - 04.01.2008

THE over 300 policemen attached to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday failed to attend the meeting summoned by the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro.

Mr. Okiro had on Wednesday, through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Administration, Ogbonna Onovo, summoned all the policemen attached to the commission to a meeting scheduled for 10 a.m on Thursday.

As of 12 noon on Thursday, only one of the policemen had shown up at the Force Headquarters. Nigerian Tribune gathered that angered by this, the police management team immediately got the Director of Operations of the EFCC, ACP Ibrahim Lamorde, on the phone, who said he was still in Lagos and was not aware of the meeting.

The source revealed that Lamorde told the management team that he was busy putting finishing touches to some cases whose reports he said President Umaru Yar’Adua had demanded for.

Nigerian Tribune further gathered that the chairman of the anti-graft body, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, failed to pass on the directive to the policemen, who claimed they were not aware of such a meeting.

Nigerian Tribune got in touch with the Inspector-General of Police, who confirmed that the meeting was supposed to be held, but that none of the policemen came around.

He told the Nigerian Tribune that most of them confirmed that they did not get the information about the meeting as most of them could not be got on the phone.

Okiro, however, said that he had directed the DIG “A” to write to all the affected policemen to attend the meeting now scheduled for next week.

He added that they had nothing to fear as the meeting was to address them on recent developments in the commission, and also to assure them that everything was well.

Meanwhile, Mallam Ribadu has said the fact that he is proceeding on a year’s course does not mean he has been sacked as the boss of the commission.

He also denied employing the media to launch a propaganda war aimed at keeping him in office at all costs. Ribadu said these during an exclusive interview with the Nigerian Tribune in Abuja.

Nigerian Tribune had on Thursday exclusively reported that Ribadu might ignore the order of the IG to proceed on the course. Ribadu said he had no misunderstanding with the Federal Government or the police authorities over the issue of the course contrary to general impression.

Ribadu stressed that since the news of his proposed one year course at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) at Kuru, Plateau State broke, he had never made a public statement either directly or indirectly through any media organisation.

He said as a public officer, it was not proper for him to use the media to make a statement about his feelings on a government directive and that he would continue to restrain himself from speaking to the media on the issue of his course.

He said he was amazed at the dimension the issue of the course had taken in the media and that this had led to the wrong reading of the media and his attitude to the course.

Ribadu said he had been cautious all along about his actions, conduct and statements as the EFCC boss in view of the fact that he could be deliberately misunderstood by some people.

“The fact that I am to proceed on a course does not mean that I have been sacked. It is the media that has been suggesting that. There is no big deal about attending a course once it is proper for you to do so. Then I wonder why all the noise about Ribadu going on a course.”

He said he never expected to remain as the chairman of the EFCC for ever from the day he assumed office, adding that as a Muslim, he had always believed that whatever had a beginning must have an end.

“When I was appointed as the EFCC chairman, I took up the task hoping to serve my fatherland to the best of my ability. It is a difficult job, no doubt, but what keeps you going is your sincerity of purpose, commitment and the desire to help Nigeria attain a height in the fight against corruption.

“This is me and I would always be me. I have nothing personal against anyone. The thing is that I know I have a job to do and I must do it. In the course of doing the job, I might have stepped on the toes of some people while some people also admire us for what we are doing. Such is life.”

The EFCC boss said the fight against corruption launched in Nigeria since 2003 had achieved good results through improved international image of Nigeria on the corruption index as yearly gauged by the Transparency International.

Re: Ribadu Blackmails The FGN by babasin(m): 11:46am On Jan 04, 2008
Meanwhile, in a statement issued by the EFCC yesterday, the commission has dismissed claims that there is a conflict between the president and its chairman over the NIPSS course.
The statement, signed by Mr. Osita Nwajah, Head, Media & Publicity, read: “In the past few days, the EFCC as well as its Executive Chairman, Nuhu Ribadu, have been the subject of intense media debate generated by the decision to send the EFCC Chairman on a course at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State.
“The Commission has however refused to be drawn into the public debate.
“EFCC now wishes to clarify that it is the position of the Commission that government can send any public officer on training to enhance his or her performance and continued service to the nation. And, as a loyal citizen and public servant, the opinion of Ribadu is not any different from the expressed position of the Commission.
“It is however worrying that the NIPSS debate has opened a window of blackmail and calumny for many of those who disagree with the Commission. This group has routinely planted stories in the media, which they make-believe as being sponsored by the Executive Chairman, in an attempt at discrediting the authorities, especially Mr. President. The stories which have explored all sorts of high wire politics scenarios and power tussle permutations are calculated at presenting the Executive Chairman as being in conflict with Mr. President and the leadership of the Nigeria Police. Nothing can be farther from the truth.
“Further, the Commission wishes to deal with the insinuation being peddled in certain quarters that the President is interfering in the work of the Commission.
The Commission hereby puts on record that President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua has never interfered in the work of EFCC and has supported the Commission’s resolve to bring to book, all who have committed any of the crimes identified in the EFCC Establishment Act (2004) and all other laws that the Commission is mandated to enforce.
“The Executive Chairman, EFCC, wishes to seize this opportunity to assure Mr. President, the leadership of the Nigeria Police and indeed, all patriotic Nigerians, of his absolute loyalty and dedication to the service of our fatherland.
“It bears restating here that as a loyal public servant, Nuhu Ribadu has no problem with the decision of Mr. President on the recommendation of the Inspector General of Police, to send him on a self-improvement course of study at the NIPSS, Kuru. Any story that suggests otherwise is only meant to cast him in the bad light of an unnecessary antagonism against government and the Police high command and should be discounted.
“The Commission wishes to thank the general public for the tremendous support it has received in the discharge of its duties.”

Re: Ribadu Blackmails The FGN by vigasimple(m): 4:16pm On Jan 04, 2008
Thank God for internet and Nairaland.

Selective justice is better than no justice especially when it concern the 'untouchables' and thank God it is not yoruba v hausa V ibo or christian v- muslim v aethist.

it is EFCC V thievies. If you don't steal what belongs to Nigeria you wouldn't be selected in the first place. and when you are 'selected' you come to open court for your trial and you can defend yourselve against every evidence put against you. Period

Even Yar A'dull was SELECTED. I didn't vote for him neither do majority of Nigerians, but we all know by and large he 'won' the election, that is part and parcel of our imperfect democracy or shall we say growing democracy.

That brought me to that wonderful piece written by EFCC press. You see OBJ got the right man for that EFCC job as in RIBADU. he is not just a policeman but a lawyer so he could see things both from the prosecution and defence perspectives and anticipate the oppossition.

All the noise about RIBADU is just to cover less than 100 powerfully corrupt Nigerian Leaders, be it ex-governor, President, Senator etc and nothing more. He is itching close to the Bib BIg Boys and they are afraid. Even if he wouldn't touch he has removed the myth and the aura of invincbility and next man at EFCC in order to suppass RIBADU will have to go for their juggular as his own trophy.

Ribadu the politician also make sure he crafted that letter to expose our president either inability/incompetence or part of the corruption most go on brigade conspirator.

The big question:

1. why did OKIRO decided that after 2 failed attempt at EFCC he needed to send RIBADU on training.

2. What immediate benefits is that Training to the works of the EFCC or the police at this point when a lot of thieves are being chased to their hiding places.

3. what was OKIRO proposal or thought as to temporary replacement to fill that gap when RIBADU is on course and will RIBADU comes back to his job in 1years time.

4. What was the president view about this arrangement known fully well the views of the country when big boys are coming into EFCC net one by one (TIMING)

5. Is Mr. President interested in what Nigerians are saying or only hears some paid noisemakers.

6. Why can't the president invite RIBADU to a meeting and find out first if he want to go on the course or wait until after the end of his term at EFCC as the course is not going to make any meaningful contribution to his work at EFCC.

7. Now, if the story we are being told is true, why again is RIBADU most senior assistant LAMORDE also going on some stupid irrelevant and thieeves training KURU course at the same time. The president should be told Nigerians maybe stupid but we are not daft we can read the handwriting on the walls. Even if we let go, in 1 years time all the truth will be out but by then the damages will have been done.

8.Why the hurry in starting January/February why not proper handover period to handover to a deputising person until RIBADU finish his course.

9. Also ADENIYI the President spokesman has said yesterday that RIBADU is blackmailing the President by using the press, I will say they in the Presidency are the ones with a lot of questions to answer. President can fire RIBADU if he want's or even send him to school but by passing the buck to IGP who has no control over him especiall when he has a higher calling than policeN20N20 service at the EFCC.

10. I hear they are still searching for RIBADU replacement when he is due to go on a course in the next 1 month or so, what does that tells you, it is a wishwasy job. Conspiracy led by AGF pass through OKIRO acquiesced to by YAR A'DULL. That is the true picture.

There are so many questions and only a firm, able honest President can answer it.

I for one like in my straight thinking Nigerians knows the school business is a disguise to ease RIBADU out of the position. How many graduate and professor that don't have job in Nigeria. What about all those that have gone on those course what improvement have they made to POLICE or the community.

Mr. President start doing the jobs that immediately benefits Nigerians and not work at cross purpose against Nigerians. shikena
