Which ISP do you use?
Re: . by kandiikane(m): 2:12am On Aug 30, 2012
It happened to me a while back. I even munched it, just incase.
I logged in as kandiikane and that name appeared.

Re: . by Seun(m): 2:18am On Aug 30, 2012
Was that Etisalat, by any means? Earlier, it was caused by a bug, but this time it looks like an ISP caching issue.

No, 02.

Yes, mine happened with Etisalat.
Not on only Nairaland, on another forum I belong to too.

Seun, i think you should do something about this before damage is done because anyday a malicious user like me accidentaly logs into any of your super moderators account, the first thing i will do is to change the email, then the password, which is very easy to do with the way Nairaland is built...and the aftermath will be very very bad...just kidding grin... I think you should advice your moderators to always log out after each visit...or if possible permanently disable cookies for your moderators...until you find a solution to this...Just a suggestion...

I taught I was the only one experiencing it. Not once but twice in less than a month of existence in this website. I can't remember the usernames but both had zero post and zero topic created. I don't use etisalat.
Re: . by Nobody: 3:16pm On Aug 30, 2012
I think i've experienced this bug in the past. Implementing a column of default value of zero for everyone will fix the bug, so to delete a user, you only have to change the value to 1

this helps compared to deleting a user completely from the database,
there comes a time some "delete user" queries never finish execution, especially with a website of a million user, rarely happens but it does.

the result? a user with actual ID 1177 can end up having 1177 on user_auth table and 1179 on user_detail table
using 1179 to select usernames sitewide will produce what just happened.

I may be wrong.
Re: . by Seun(m): 3:25pm On Aug 30, 2012
I see what you mean, but we don't have a delete user feature yet, so different users can't have the same Id in the current design.

I don't think this will happen in a scenario where the DB is normalized and queries are in transactions.

I experience this a lot like 3ce a week sef, but once you navigate to another page it usualy corrects itself, hope Seun and his team find a way to resolve this as soon as possible before baby hackers are tempted to hone their exploitation skills on Naija's most important forum.

BTW: I use 21st century not etisalat.

If you experience it again, please report it here. We've added a directive that should prevent the problem from happening.
