hello all...i see myself as an "intermediate" web designer.i wld love to design an online catalog/dictionary,with words and their meaning.the site will also contain user accounts where users can login,request for meaning of certain words and chat..something similar to www.naijalingo.com which cms wld be preferable??

What happen to WordPress?? Wordpress Can do anything you can do with Drupal or Joomla and more so its simpler to setup, manage, and maintain. I use drupal too but I discovered that I render more support to my client than necessary.

@talk2hbi: when I'm talking about customizing, I meant delving into drupal API's to build your own modules to extend drupal's functioality. Drupal has this flexibility more than all the other CMS. Wordpress is good also but I use it for simple sites.
I've worked with a team to build a University portal with Drupal before, that's when I appreciated its complexity as well as flexibility.
Just my thought anyway.

Yes I know, also working a University using drupal. yeah you get ma point. This site www.lagsms.com runs on Wordpress.

Each of them has its unique advantages.
If you are looking to build an information portal where you will engage users and update content regularly, I sugest you go for wordpress. If you need a website where u will display information and don't need much regular updates, u can use joomla.
If your site will require huge user request like jamb registration and all that, use drupal. That's my view

Wordpress. The rest are like wordpress just more annoying. if you have to use smthing other than wp then its Joomla. wow I hate drupal.

Wordpress is best cms here with lots of plugins and also easy to use with little programming knowledge.
You just need a hosting account for it. Best of luck!

Joomla is very easy and preferable but it has some limitations. Drupal is easy to understand and somewhat difficult to implement. Wordpress is low cost and even very easy. For career prospects Joomla and Drupal is preferable.

Poorly built?? what do you mean by poorly built on terms of the interface or the Plugin that powered the Bulk sms portal. I agreed to the fact that the interface is poor Which is as a result of the designer that collected money to do the design who never turned up so I have to come up with something. I am a developer not a designer.

@OP It all depends on your current skill level.

Personally, I will rank the CMSes in decreasing order of difficulty as Drupal > Joomla > Wordpress. With Wordpress being the simplest to use and Drupal the most complex.

In all cases, the possibility of achieving what you want without much stress depends on the availability of an extension or plugin or module for what you want. So what you should do before commencing is to check for a WP plugin that can perform what you want without too many changes. If available, then go with Wordpress. Otherwise, check Joomla extensions, then Drupal.

If none of the CMSes have an extension that can be made to do what you want, you can pick the CMS of your choice and then develop a custom extension for it by yyourself or get someone to do it for you.

According to me all CMS is better to use for making good website. But personally i like to use wordpress. It is very nice to use for making website. It has good features and tools that you can easily use to make a website with login system.

Where can I get pdf's on wrdporess,drupal or joomla...as for videos can I get them for free,even if it aint free at least not that expensive.
