Research has shown that ones first/native language often has an undue influence on the second and other languages he/she learns.this is evidenced in areas of; (1)phonology,where my Anambara brothers will pronounce 'R' as 'L'& vice versa.
(2)Semantics/grammatical/lexical interference..... saying something different from ones intention.
maybe this explains our reference to every detergent as 'omo',every pen as 'bic', making such response as.... " am coming" even when one has taken an exit.
PLEASE ADD TO THE LIST SO WE CAN LEARN MORE.

please, it is not limited to Nigerians alone,though I chose Nigeria as a point of reference, feel free to cite from other countries.
