...and what do we have to say to fiancees of military officers? Some have been discouraged because of the nature of their job. What can a lady do/say to encourage others(family) to accept her choice(in this case, a Lieut.), especially since the love and happiness is there? Answers pls!

hello there, if one decides to keep his family outside barracks how frequent would he be allowed to visit them? any medical doctor serving in the military in this forum? how is the chennel of communication like in the medical corps? traditionally medical doctors are known to be leaders of health teams, is it the same in the military or it is the rank that matters? if one decides not to do residency are there chances for masters and PhDs? how do one convert from DSSC to DRC? any disadvantage? the officers that contributed in this forum sounds like gentlemen but the ones we meet in the society behaves differently; arrogant, lack of respect to established laws and orders and poor understanding of civilian life. tnx

@ V/ Admiral, thanks a bunch for the incisive and analytic comment. I don't know much about the Nigerian military but I do know that it's a noble profession. I also know that while it may not be the highest paying profession in the country, one can lead a comfortable life with the pay (If you're not over-ambitious). I'm a second class upper graduate and I presently work in the media. I'm really interested in joining the military. As a matter of fact, I'm hoping to do a Masters @ NDA. I don't know how you can be of help. We don't need to meet, I just need you to refer to a website of any of your Lagos office where I can make enquiries about joining the military. Please send me a message @ vincentmaga@gmail.com and we can pick things up from there. Once again, thanks for your comment. It was very educating.

Great thread with respect to officers in the house, I would like to know the prospects of someone with a Natural Gas Engineering background going on short service in the Nigerian Airforce and Navy respectively I heard that they prefer doctors, accountants and engineers who's discipline re more relevant in the force.

Have gone through this thread carefully, picked lot of points with sound understanding, my sincere appreciation to all that had given light in respect to Nigeria Army.
But this is 2013, guess a lot must have changed, payment structure must have been improved and other entitlements for serving your Country. Please 'sirs' kindly share light once again on the current situation in NA.
Am hopeful by the grace of God, am enrolling for the next DSSC once the form is out.
Any info will be appreciated.
Thank you

Greetings to all the military men/women in here and noble civilians...

I have series of questions bugging my mind which i need people with genuine answers to please enlighten me.

1. Can i join the Nigerian Navy with a foreign degree? UK Bsc Information Technology, is there room for computer programmers/Analyst in the Navy.
2. Must i have a Nysc dispatch letter to enroll in the Navy.
3. Is it possible to do other personal duties aside from military work? Maybe 2-3hours a day
4. I heard there is always battle of superiority and segregation among regular officers and Dssc officers, ow true is that?
5. Are there special bonus and incentives that regular officers benefit from, that the Dssc don't benefit from?
6. What is the highest rank that a dssc officer can attain his entire navy service and how many years will it take?
7. I heard there is a rank you will attain in the Navy and you will still be entitled to your military guards and so on,what rank is that?
8. And lastly, Is it possible to migrate from a dssc officer to regular officer if u so desire a combat career?

I have always had the dream of wearing white-white right from secondary school, it became a passion, now its like an obsession. attempted Regular combatant cadet enrollment but wasn't successful so i pursued a university degree oversees, and willing to get back where my hearth belongs, which is the Nigerian Navy.

I need help on this,
Thanks In anticipation.

1. Can i join the Nigerian Navy with a foreign degree? UK Bsc Information Technology, is there room for computer programmers/Analyst in the Navy.- Yes you can join with a foreign degree but you must show proof of Nigerian citizenship, There is room for computer programmers in the Education dept & IT units
2. Must i have a Nysc dispatch letter to enroll in the Navy. - Yes, it is a mandatory requirement
3. Is it possible to do other personal duties aside from military work? Maybe 2-3hours a day - It all depends as you might be posted quite often usually every 24months or as situation demands
4. I heard there is always battle of superiority and segregation among regular officers and Dssc officers, ow true is that? - True, but its gradually fading out
5. Are there special bonus and incentives that regular officers benefit from, that the Dssc don't benefit from? - NO,rather regular officers have to write promotional exams while DSSC dont
6. What is the highest rank that a dssc officer can attain his entire navy service and how many years will it take? - It depends on your corp or arm of service but some have reached the rank of Major General seamlessly.
7. I heard there is a rank you will attain in the Navy and you will still be entitled to your military guards and so on,what rank is that? - Once a General always a General but you will have to pay for them to be with you after your service
8. And lastly, Is it possible to migrate from a dssc officer to regular officer if u so desire a combat career? - You can convert from a DSSC (Direct short service commission) to a DRC (Direct regular combatant officer) before going beyond the rank of Major or its equivalent as long as you are within the age limits & Physically fit

I have always had the dream of wearing white-white right from secondary school, it became a passion, now its like an obsession. attempted Regular combatant cadet enrollment but wasn't successful so i pursued a university degree oversees, and willing to get back where my hearth belongs, which is the Nigerian Navy. - Keep the dream alive brother

I need help on this,
Thanks In anticipation.
