It depends on where you are. 30k is a lot of money in gombe, but the same 30k is peanuts for someone who stays in ikeja and works in vi.

Okay cool. Lets use your description. An unemployed graduate lives in Ikeja and has an opportunity to work at VI, what kinda salary should he not decline for a start?

Is the amount expected all-in? would there be subsidized lunch?, will the office provide staff bus? will there be an HMO arrangement to treat you and your family (if any) when you fall sick?, If all of these are in place, Ikeja resident working in VI should not do below between 80K and N100k per month. Anything lower than that will leave you with nothing after all other overheads. Especially if you have folks to fend for and you do occasional beers. My views.

@OP;
They are all peanuts, considering the number of years one spent in school, the pain, stress, money and those burnt night candles. But with the situation of unemployment for Naija, I think any fresh graduates would want to grab any ooooo, on the basis of "Half a loaf is much more better than none", thingz..

it depends on a lot of factors, like environment/city where U live (cost of living there), transportation, are U fending for yourself alone or do you have dependent, housing (do you live with somebody or do pay rent where you live).
If you live with somebody, u don't need to spend much. But if you are paying rent, then you will factor in sundry expenses like electricity bill, sanitation money etc.

If you as me I will say... NIKE....JUST DO IT.

A fresh graduate with a 2.1 and no sort of work experience is 'worth' less than a fresh graduate with 2.2 and gathered some sort of RELEVANT work experience on his/her way through school. Professional certifications also have an effect.
The point I’m trying to make is that there are several factors (work experience, skill set, class of degree, Location, etc) that affect what a ‘graduate’ should expect and accept.

It is always difficult to give a loaded question and expect a blancket answer. Questions are always relative and answers too are relative.

What Mr A will call a bad salary; Mr B may accept. I have seen people who were ready to work without salary just to garner the relevant years of experience for better opportunity.

However, if we want to pick an average salary, I think N60,000 for a start is not too bad. With that you can:
1. Pay your T. fare=N15,000 a month (highest)
2. Pay your tithe=N6000
3. Feed yourself=N18,000 @N600 per day
4. Cloth yourself=N5000 @ N2,500 per shirt (avg)
5. Save remaining N16,000 for future use eg writing of professional exams, etc.

A few things would need to be considered:

- Is this the kind of job you'd like to put on your resume? My first job (Internet service engineer) paid me 7000 naira per month (back in 1998). This was really what I wanted to do so i did not mind. I got another offer for 45000 naira in the same field in less than 3 months.

- Transportation costs

- Feeding costs

- Rent ??

- A little change to spare...

If all these are covered with the salary and this is the only job offer available, then i'll say go for it.

IF not, then, your choice.

Remember, the minute you start a job (any job at all), those uncles and aunties will stop giving you hand-out. And your younger ones will start to expect "something".

So please make sure the salary covers the basic things at least.

A graduate in Nigeria should receive a Minimum of 100,000/month. But it also depends on location and proximity to work. But economically, anything less than this is below poverty line

You're very funny. It means you are only worth 28K right? I think it all depends on what you think you are worth, so go for it, if 28K befits you and stop being sarcastic.

Your base salary should be dependent on the standard of living in your area..

Now a graduate who has to pay for the following;

1. Electricity.

2. Transportation (Atleast 300 naira Daily #Base Case)

3. Accomodation (1 Bedroom self-contained)

4. Food (500 Naira per day)

5. Clothing (5000 Naira per month)

6. Miscellenous expenses (Toileteries, Recharge card, Fuel for his I-Pass-My-Neighbour, Gas for his Camp-gas, e.t.c)

And lives in any of the following cities;

1. Abuja

2. Lagos

3. Port-Harcourt

4. Calabar

5. Warri

Cannot accept a job that pays anything less than 100,000 per day and survive without extra-income coming from elsewhere.

At this point in my professional life (my experience level o), my base salary for any job is 200 Thousand Naira per month after taxes and must come with atleast 2 bonuses every year.

If you are not earning up to N80,000 after tax,then that job isnt worth it,what you have is a meanless job title that does not provide any form of security should anything happen.You are supposed to save at least N50,000 every month.If you are not,then its time you engaged your brain and come up with something.
Lots of people make up to N1m every month.
