Goodday house, I came for advice as to how to handle a situation with my website designer, I don't know firstly if that's Ђơ̴̴̴̴̴̴͡ω its done...my web programmer is currently designing an e-commerce website for my new business, and he just told ♍e he has to handle the domain purchase, hosting and that i have to pay the hosting fee anually to utiware via his company(30k) and №† by myself...the money's №† really the problem just from his explanation he has absolute control over the website and being nigeria I'm №† really comfortable given this is nigeria and leaving a website W̶̲̥̅̊i̶̲̅Τ̲̅ђ an interswitch payment platform in his command doesn't quite settle wit ♍e, pls I need advice as to if that's Ђơ̴̴̴̴̴̴͡ω its done. When a person who claims to be a developer starts demanding for things like this I think its best you hired someone else. He is most likely poverty stricken and is looking for possible ways to hold you to ransom in the future. In the hood we will say "the guy wan open office for your head".

NEVER give your designer domain and hosting rights. All your designer should do is tell you the specifications of the hosting required to house his work. He has no right to choose where it should be hosted and he has no right to question your choice.

If you've given your designer your hosting/domain right, just kukuma give am your CAC company registration papers.

Tell him you can get your own domain name and hosting.Be the one in charge of the Domain registration details at least. Like Dual core said, let him give you the specs for the hosting and you pay for it yourself so that you retain ownership of your files. We have seen some cases here on Nairaland.

Hold it before you make a fatal mistake. Nigerians hardly make credit or debit card payments online. E-commerce companies have noticed this and they adopted the pay on delivery system.

Don't make a mistake that you'll regret later. We don't want you to come running to us in some years later telling us that you designer has scammed you.

Since you wan to run an e-commerce site, just make sure that you get enough space and bandwidth. if possible get a VPS depending on how major the site is going to be.

I talked to the guy today and he said why he can't give my the webfiles and he has to do the hosting himself is that the programming created for the website was his intellectual property and that if he gave Iτ̅ out, some other programmer can simply use Iτ̅ for their own profit and as for the domain purchase he said if I decide to buy myself I would still hand Iτ̅ to him to use in uplaoding the files, if I were to use someone else in the future for my web-works he would take his files and give the domain over to ♍e. When I asked him about ♍e getting the right to the files solely he said that would cost ♍e millions to have sole and absolute control of the web files and programming. What's ur take on all these . Pls advice ♍e.

Why did u post dis topic twice. I think u have to 4get about dis guy, he his a control freak. Paying him to design ur site means u automatically have d right to d source code, so I don't understand wat he his talking about. U have to resist all attempts he makes to control ur site. I beg you in the name of whoever you love most (my name is Dual Core, just incase na me and you are female), do NOT pay One Naira to this guy for anything. All that intellectual property latin is plain rubbish and he is seriously insulting your intelligence with these 50kobo lies and formats.

Please install opencart and play around with it or get someone who really knows the job to get this done for you.

Its a shopping cart site, right? Open cart, virtuemart(if you are using joomla), Zen cart, cube cart, Os commerce, Presta shop , are all open source shopping cart softwares. Yes, if you want extensive modifications and a unique look, you need to pay him his wages for it but all the talk about intellectual property is what I dont understand.

Like others have advised, look for someone else.

Ok, I honestly cannot take up the task now... I am gradually retiring so am I am rounding up most things so there are no carry overs into next year.

Don't let that developer jam your head... its not rocket science. With the opencart app its quite user friendly and there are a few good people here who can take this up or guide you through.

Thank U̶̲̥̅̊ all for your advices and references, as for the opencart app I've decided to take Iτ̅ up myself but would still require some guidance from any professional in the house and some programming on Iτ̅ to modify the way Iτ̅ works.
