Java Devs, Which Do You Prefer? Eclipse Or Netbeans? by Nobody: 6:55am On Nov 26, 2012
As of late, I think I prefer NetBeans. Eclipse just seems so darn bloated to me.
For anything java desktop related, Netbeans hands down. For Server-side, I'm actually beginning to appreciate Netbeans for that as well.

What are your preferences?

Netbeans IDE has got all I need. Gives your code good formatting. Thats what I love about it

Netbeans is more user-friendly, but Eclipse has better support for open source programming languages like Python & Scala, development environments like Android and tools like Git. So I reluctantly switched to Eclipse.

I use both depending on what am doing. The major determinant is the plugin I will work with, many a times Eclipse does better here. Like this Web services job,the eclipse CXF plugin is superb and up to date generating my java classes from this web service like magic. What am more interested in is developing the application

I prefer using Netbeans, its easier to use especially for Swing IDE and advance J2EE programming stuffs

Each of these tools have their advantages and disadvantages. My suggestion is to just use what gets the job done for you. As a consultant in this field for so many years. Every shop I have worked at has used eclipse or RAD (mostly BIG IT shops). At the current client we started with RAD, however have recently moved to MEB (My Eclipse Blue). I also have used eclipse for my personal development. Not saying one is better than the other, but eclipse has worked for all I need to do, period! Bottom line - use whatever works for you.

Both are great IDEs to work with. It all depends on maximising some added features. Personally, I use eclipse and it's really great
