I will contradict your claims by saying this... Princess Diana was worshiped everywhere else except here in he UK. Come watch all of our tv channels and go to the USZ and watch their tv channels, you would really know we dnt give a fuss about celebs here.

Do you really think everyone lives for a money that comes like the morning dew? Do you really think everyone is prepared to sacrifice their morals and self worth on the altar of riches of the whirl wind of the south Think again....
yes cos everybody in UK will contine to pay tax till they grow old and nothing to show for.boring place in Europe.none of them can come back home and build ordinary boys quater, beck left cos ENGLAND doesnt have swagg..even a 2year old in haiti knows that.

Who give a fuss about Nigeria pseudo prostitute aka celebs? What are you celebrating? Is it not madness that you celebrating someone who has no achievement of great reckoning that has changed the lives of many in the country?

I live in the UK and if anything, for much of what I dislike here, they barely give a fuss about celebs... They have tried to push the culture down people's throat but they aren't swallowing it in....here we cut metals..we don't worship them...
My friend stop sounding ridiculous with your gibrish about celebs and them not being accepted in the UK.Who don't know that UK is still creeping from Recession? If they have the money to spend they will go for Celebs

Really not everyone coming to nigeria, it is those who have lost commercial value in their native land that are coming to nigeria to revive their fallen image. Have you ever asked yourself, why haven't they brought the best of minds to nigeria universities for exchange programmes? Why haven't they brought the best of F1 designers to Nigeria to inspire our youths on how to stretch their imaginations into the futures

If only your ranting are the facts... Go check how much UK based Nigeria remitted to the country last year. Some of you back home can eat today because we made good to invest back in Nigeria and are sponsors of some of you in schools and colleges back home.. Get real..

Te last time I check, £1=N250 or more.. So get real. Just today, DFID launched a £150million initiative to save women who dye of child birth in Nigeria yearly. Need I remind you that those monies are from taxes paid by both the wealthy and the working class here

Omo_Tier1, you're saying the UK doesn't worship celebrities and also royalty? Whose wedding did the globe witness in April of 2011?

Your arguments are not making any sense. It's okay to not favor someone, but don't use distorted truths to bolster your argument. I'm sure you've had your own instances as a youth, where you did some things you may not have been proud of and even regret. However, I'm also sure you got over them and became a changed and matured man. Kim Kardashian has moved on from her own instance and has grown in her own ways as well. Free her.

I disagree with pretty much everything you said. The UK and US are extremely similar in many ways, including celeb worship. That's an incontrovertible fact. That may not be true to you personally, but generally, the UK is celeb-crazed just like the US.

Regardless, Kim Kardashian is in Lagos to host a show. She's not there to be intimate on stage. So, keep holding that tape against her. As someone rightly said earlier, she took something that's negative to the public eye and turned it into a positive. While some of you are still discussing the tape, she's flying across the globe first class, continually building her empire. She deserves a lot of credit for that. Anyone can make a sex tape. Not everyone can turn the publicity into multi-millions.

I think a lot of you are taking her tape personally lol. She made a tape and she's rich. You went to school and make maybe tens of thousands a year. If you want to argue whether or not celebrities are overpaid, then create a thread for that. It may seem unfair, but the truth is that many of us would remain in our 9-to-5 position making fractions of what they make, than be rich and famous and have Nairalanders fans, friends, and foes spewing negativity at every turn. The pressure is immense. I'm content with school and average money.

I'm not "supressing the people's voice". I'm hiding comments in violation with Nairaland's rules. Good night.
May God bless you for your reply to that Mr Man.Shallow thought i guess. So the Brazil she visited few weeks back became morally inept and everyone went erotic as a result of her visit?

ogugua88:

Be honest with yourself. People want Kim Kardashian around. People watch her tv show religiously and then criticize her afterwards. She doesn't have to be moral or valuable in the eyes of Nigerian youths. Do not make it seem like Nigerian youths are looking for a moral savior either. Just like with any other society, Nigerians too are celeb-crazed. Wizkid, Davido, Tonto Dikeh and others gloss our headlines because people eat it up. They would much rather spend hours discussing Tonto Dikeh's music video than read a novel by Chimamanda Adichie. A thread on tribes or celebrities can reach 10 pages within hours, meanwhile it takes tangible threads (that have not been derailed) days to garner interest. That's simply how society is. Rather than complain about one woman hosting a show in Eko Hotel, do something about the larger picture.

She hasn't reduced me nor the rest of womanhood. Kim Kardashian made that tape and became who she is because of her own determination. She hasn't even reduced herself. That tape doesn't speak for Kim Kardashian. That's the truth. If it did, then promoters and event organizers, including those in the all-so-religious-and-moral Nigeria, would not be willing to pay her thousands of dollars to fly across the globe to make one appearance.
I hope you would also glorify someone who runs a prostitution ring in Eastern Europe, then use the proceed to invest and become mega rich ...my question to you is this... Is she the kind of individuals the country needs to really inspire her youth? Nigerians are not celeb crazy, it is because they do not have a true sense of who they are, where they are going and the vision of who they want to become, hence they copy anything that comes their way. Nigerians have always appreciated people who have impacted the lives of many but we never worship them and make them object of our discussion over dinner table... This generation have no vision so they easily perish without thoughts...

Again, I repeat... We do not worship celebs. The royalties are no celebs... One of the reasons people felt Diana was sent packing was because of her celeb status which the royal felt was becoming an embarrassment. Need I remind you that just two days ago, the royal objected to Kate's privacy being invaded by a celeb magazine in Italy who was going to publish the photos they took when she was holidaying on a beach.

Also, to figure out, how many tabloids dedicated to celebs feature on UK's top selling tabloids? The Sun known widely for her celeb glorifying status have learned the hard lessons that the UK is full of men and women who cuts metals....

I am sorry, I never followed the part you referred to I your post.

With all these spending you listed above how does it culminate into the pocket of an average Briton? You cannot erase the fact that Britons are broke an can't afford the chase for celebs.Instead they prefare to seat in their cubicle of houses and think about how they can afford the next day meal. Can one give what he does not have? That is the clear case of the British people.

I concur with your submission. It bothers me really that we have so many in that country who are visionless, have no self worth, and do not really know who they are suppose to be! Imagine how inspired I was when during my university days we got a visited by some of NASA's best engineers who built some of the spacecraft, developed some really game changing technologies! I mean, my horizon was further broaden than it was. At that time, it was just he perfect moment for me to get people like that come inspire me to think of how I can shape the future. Nigeria youths today are yearning for great minds to inspire and mentor them. Imagine if we spend these thousand of dollars bringing in the best minds in medical field, engineering to visit our universities for just 5 years, you will be amazed what our youths will be doing with their talents.

No, she was sent packing because she spoke up about her husband having relations with his former-flame-turned-second-wife Camilla Parker-Bowles. You have it backwards. People love Duchess Kate because of her likeness to Princess Diana. The royal family is supposed to object. That's all they do. You pay them their millions and the Queen and elders make noise every now and then. They rightfully made noise considering that Princess Diana perished in a car crash while fleeing paparazzi in France.

You don't have to follow anything. Just realize that it's unfair to hold an old issue over someone's head. It shows that you're bitter. There are several positive's of Kim K's presence, as well as the presences of other's like Rick Ross, Keri Hilson, and others in Nigeria. It's certainly putting us on the map. Rather than worry about their morals, we should come up with ideas to make Nigeria more presentable to the world as the world is coming to us. That's best for politics though.

Lol most people are funny...

She made a sex tape with her bf at the time(ray j) and he leaked it out.. Instead of letting the bad publicity ruin her, she turned it into an empire. She alone is worth $50 million, her family is worth way more than that.

Everyone is lacking like they or their wives and girlfriends are virgins. The fact is many nigerian women have done a lot worse and have slept with a lot more people, even while married or even if the man in question is married. They just have been lucky enough not to have their own tape leaked out.

I am not condoning her as a positive role model for young girls but as a smart business woman. In a society as morally bankrupt as Naija where the sanctity of marriage is not valued and politicians and rich men openly have other girls in public, can we afford to judge her?

This is exactly why she is being paid a lot of money to co-host an event, because she generates publicity. She typically gets paid $250k and up for international appearances, so while we are here abusing her, our country that somehow can't provide for all its citizens is paying her fees, flying her in first class with all her entourage, police and soldiers are lying on the floor to greet her and I'd guess some big shot politicians will be showering her with gifts to try their luck. She has only been in the country for a few hours and look out how many pages the thread has.

Oh! Please!. Everybody can't be NASA engineer and everybody can be like you. Your view to life is very skewed in the sense that you are thinking of your very perception of morality is the best way for everybody forgetting that humans are free moral animals. That alone proves you need to get out of your little box and let people be who they want to be. And, you don't have any right to judge Kim Kardashian on moral ground. She's invited to Nigeria for a purpose and if you don't like that you can cry least I care.

Science is not what you think it is. It has never changed man's destiny and it only changes the way we live. It is more like a tool to discover nature. Nature remains what it is and it's unchangeable. Please, excuse us of your Science blahblahblah... We don't care about it in this thread. When we do we will go to Science thread to air our views on it.

It surprises me to see a mature man is bent on bring somebody down with all resources in a forum yet the same person is not a perfect being in any way. If you don't find anything interesting in celebs others do. Oh, excuse me.
