Dear nairaland, i am often confused about sunday worship.i heard some people saying sunday is the new sabbath day for christians, others says not attending sunday worship is a sin. Although i attend weekly services and the kind of work i do demands sunday work. The question is "is it a sin not to attend sunday worship?" if u have bible backup for this, you are welcome... |

Actually It depends on your reason but i want you to know that serving God at ur convinience is a sin. U must be able to sacrifice everytin and make sure ure in chuch and not only on sundays 1 Like |

@ Op Listen to ur conscience and follow heart. If ur job doesn't give u time its a different thing. But its dat u dnt see reason u must be in church den u need to renew ur relationship with God. because David said I ws glad wen they say let's go to d presence of God. So it shud b somthing u r eager to do. U shud find pleasure in being in d presence of God. Now som will say is His presence in d church alone? Nop, infact as children of God we carry His presence anytime. Moreova we r d church. But d difference in my opinion is d gathering and d Word that is opened to us tru His Servants. Joagbaje: Fellowship is anywhere at any time and not restricted to a specific location or day , this is just the tradition of MAN. Christians should meet daily in 2s and 3s or more if possible or necessary at homes, coffee bars , anywhere really. Jesus said where 2 or are 3 gathered together he will be there, it does not have to be where thousands or hundreds are gathered. "Every day they continued to meet together[/b] in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts"- Acts 2:46 If we look at the pattern of the early church, they met daily not specifically on Sunday and it was mostly in homes and the temple courts. SELFWORTH: This question is for pagans,unbelievers and atheists to debate. Honestly, its getting boring. Every Christian post is hijacked by all those who are keen to poke holes in the Christian faith. Its not as if this forum is a Christian forum so i don't understand why people (i.e genuine CHRISTIANS) cannot ask for advice from other brethen in their own Church and you feel you need to come on to NL a forum for all kinds of human beings (SOME WHO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT GOD BUT CALL THEMSELVES CHRISTIANS). Going to church on a sunday is one of the ways of keeping the day holy which is the sabbath day for christians. Not being able to go to church on a genuine reason can not be regarded as a sin. You may have missed the sunday service because you had to do something which was also to the glorification of God. But when you miss sunday service for no reason i think that is very unacceptable. I know God is not just in the church alone but as a christian you should follow the tradition of worshipping together with your fellow christians on sundays. Even if you can't participate in the other activities of the church at least try to keep a date with the Lord every sunday. |

Col 2:16 Therefore let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, Col 2:17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. The key is Christ As long as you make out time to worship with others and not necessarily on a Sunday,I believe you are covered. Also read Romans14 which though is addressed to eating or not eating certain regarding the law,it can apply to your question especually the below posted Rom 14:5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind Rom 14:6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks. First of all if you want to keep the sabbath , then it is Saturday not Sunday, go ask the Jews , they still keep the Sabbath in the orthodox section of Israel. We should and must respect anyone and everyone who decides to consider Sunday as a holy day for he does it unto GOD , but we have no right to condemn those who do not consider Sunday as a holy day. "One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind." - Romans 14:5 I know God is not just in the church alone but as a christian you should follow the tradition of worshipping together with your fellow christians on sundays.
