why is it that most Nigerian graduate are not in the line of their profession, e.g A man studies physics in school instead of seating down at the research centre maybe he can use his/her IQ to get something out, instead he rush to a bank and start working as an accountant e.t.c that the reason why Nigeria might not go forwad (Mark the word might:- that is if we continue like this )please people fight for a change ), JobSeekers Go to the Line Of Ur calling Not AnyJob Will Do, Thank You , God will Bless If You desire A change. and i will ask you Mr / Mrs Reader are you In the Line of Your Calling (What You studied In school)

You need to be very open minded when considering the issue. There is no where in the world where it is essential for you to work in the same field as the one you studied at school. You are trained in school not as a zombie but as a problem solving being versatile enough to adapt to any situation. Besides, some people were just unfortunate to study a course they really were not interested in (due to jamb, parental pressure etc). I wonder when did it become anybody else's prerogative other than yours where you work?

Then you also want people to leave a job that allows them the sort of life they want for one that is not too appealing just because it is not their field? And lastly on the bank issue, notwithstanding that they are the highest employers of labour in Nigeria, modern day banking is composed of so many divisions that utilize the different facets of any course studied in Nigeria.

So my guy, do not speak ignorantly.

Hi,
i agree with what Rev:Lanre said, most Nigerian look for jobs outside what they studied in school and this will never help the development of our country. Most comments was to what he said was not view in terms of growth and development for our National.if each and every one of us as Nigerian graduate can be trained by the government in regards to what we studied in school and placed in the approprate position in our field of study,i think Nigeria will do better.for example in Trinidad and Tobago a third world country like Nigeria most of its citizens are given what they call ON THE JOB TRAINING after graduation from the university for six months to a year to aquired skills so as to be relevant in the society.you dont need to be ask by employees how many years experience do you have before you are employed but what skills do you have that should be a better way.its our right as Nigeria youth to sound an alarm to the ministry of labour, ministry of works and housing to do something for nigerian graduates on skills empowerment.a lot of us know theory from school but no practical thats why we want anything so as to get money but we need skills of relevance to change our nation.Trinidad and tobago is a small country and they are doing that, why cant the government empower us graduate with skills.i want to say NYSC should be abolish and skills empowerment should be in placed for a year.bye

Just to add again that even the topic is very inaccurate. True that only a small percentage of Nigerian graduates get jobs as soon as they graduate; but that's not to say that they end up NEVER getting jobs. No. Most cases, what we suffer is delayed employment, underemployment, "slavery" (exploitative) employment, etc, BUT NOT perpetual unemployment. Remember also that a good number of Nigerian graduates were not even happy with their courses of study. Many were forced to read their courses simply cos that's what was available at the time they were admitted; Such people would be quite happy to jump ship to better disciplines!

Dear,
i will not blame you because the society has made lots of Nigerians "semi Normal".Come to think of it how many people really studied courses of their choice, even with your 250 and above in Jamb 5 0level credits u end up getting what they give u and not what u deserve. And let me tell u the earlier u realize that we(nigerians) are products of a deformed system the better for you.I cant say it all here but you just let people be.

no matter how deform is the system, you acn be an agent of change.don get deformed with it.stay bless

The FACT still remains wether people where actually called to study what dey actually studied!!!
not whether some1 studied physics and may be working in a bank ( I beg to disagree). if U missd it , U missd it right from day one.

what is the base of education, I guess its to train your mind, build one's confidence and actually prepare 1 for the battle ahead.

If every 1 sticks to whateva he/she studied, then who heads/Manages various organisations across our beloved naija, does it mean we need to produced more and more MANAGEMENT students 2 manage 4 US all,

thats where training/education comes into play,

haven't we all read job description that say one must posses the following attributes

Sound analytical mind,
Excellent communication skills; fllexibilty;
Being Proactive and so on,

or has any1 seen any legislation/regulations that says only commercial students should work in banks,

I would love to inform the author that within organisations, you'd always find project managers/leaders who have got a technical background, but they still have to demonstrate that they have got the commercial abilities needed to run the project , not necessarily cos one read management.

It's a global trend. Your university degree today is now equivalent to the high school certificate of those days. A university education helps in giving you skills that will be useful in any work place.

How can we expect a hungry person to be choosy about job?
The problem is a national problem that can be very difficult for an hungry individual who is always looking for what to eat to solve.
That is the case of graduates ending up in jobs that is outside what they actually studied.
My brothers and sisters I beg i no go blame anybody o.
