Then Simeon…said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the fall and rising of many… - Luke 2:34

The above passage captures one of the purposes of Jesus Christ; He came to see to the rise and the fall of many. Sounds contradictory, but very true; otherwise, the Bible wouldn’t have recorded it. And, even more veritable is the fact that some people have the same calling in life.

Until the coming of Jesus, religion was the order of the day and a lot of people, particularly so-called religious leaders, perpetrated all sorts of evil in the name of serving God. On the other hand, many people were considered as dregs of the society; they were oppressed and denied in the socio-political and economic order of the day until they had an encounter with Jesus. To the former, the coming of Jesus and His ministry signalled the end of their influence and their ultimate fall from prominence, that is if they were not smart enough to accept Him as their Lord. To those in the second category, an encounter with Jesus was all they need to launch them from oblivion into limelight.

Apart from Matthew, who was known because of his trade as a tax collector, most of the early disciples of Jesus were relatively unknown persons until they became acquainted with Him. In fact, someone like Mary Magdalene would not have had a mention in the chronicles of her time, but for her encounter with Jesus. The disciples attained fame and significance as a result of their decision to subscribe to Jesus (Acts 4:13). In contemporary times, numerous individuals owe their rise in life to their encounter with Jesus.

Like Jesus, some individuals are called to be the facilitator of other people’s greatness. There are innumerable successes that would not have been if the successful had not benefitted from a chance meeting or relationship with certain individuals which proved instrumental to their launch. On the other hand, there are a lot of subterfuges that would not have been exposed if the schemer hadn’t encountered certain individuals who knowingly or inadvertently blew open their cover which resulted in their downfall.

Does the above sound like you? Then don’t stop doing your best to lift up good people and undoing the evil ones.

You will succeed in Jesus Name!
