I have been an avid reader of International News magazines like Time, Newsweek etc for more than 20 years.

And through this whole time I noticed that whenever I come across any advert on wrist watches, the time in the pictures are always frozen at exactly the same time, Ten Minutes Past Ten.


I know for sure that there must be a reason for this but I have pondered long and hard but I could still not find any.


Is there any one out there who knows?

I will be grateful for an answer that will help me to solve this mystery.

Switzerland has nothing to do with Abe Lincoln or Hiroshima. Pre-ww2 watch ads have mostly same alignment. It's always about ten past ten, because in that way watch hands form "smiley face" on dial, it is used mainly for advertisement as creating certain "positive feel".
