Enough of this thread recycling. It has been so since the 1990s and the reason is to avoid all our federal schools from being an Igbo/Yoruba school just like Nairaland has turned an Igbo/Yoruba forum. We all know its because education awareness is more in the South and Igbo and Yoruba are the largest ethnic groups in the South.

When demand exceeds supply, the price has to go up to eliminate the excess. We have many children in the south taking the unity school exams than in the north. In a case where it's equality of states, the states that has lower numbers of pupils taking the exams have to be encouraged with lower cut-off mark and those with higher number turned off with higher cut-off marks. There is a limit to the numbers of student they can take in a year and each state has to have equal number of students. Let's assume they need 20 from north and 20 from the south and we have like 500 students who took the exam from the south and only 50 from the north. The pupils who have higher scores from each zone will be considered. Starting from the highest down until they reach the number of required students for the zone. The student that is in the 20th position from the south might score 150 while that of the north is 5. I think it's to keep some section from dominating the unity school.
