I was thinking, there are places abroad (on the Internet too) where a filmmakers can pitch his movie idea and if people like the story and the scope of work that will go into the making of the movie, they go ahead and Donate for the movie to be made.

the funding can range from $1 - $1000... the basic idea is known as crowd funding.

I'm not trying to advertise or pitch here (at least not yet) but I wanted to hear your views about it.

The benefit of this funding is that the filmmaker already can arouse the interest of the viewers and they will eagerly await the up coming movie.

secondly the people who fund the movie are like mini Executive producers, although they don't get to influence the artistic outcome of the movie but they get perks like free tickets, promotional Tshirts and so on...

its also a great way to discover new talents (Actors and Directors) and also raise the movie awareness.

Please NairaLanders any advice, thoughts and encouragement would be highly appreciated.

thanks

You must at least have heard about 'Kickstarter' - http://www.kickstarter.com/ ... I know I have donated money to various projects there; both films and others. Even a Naija project - thread here - https://www.nairaland.com/1229623/spider-stories-nigerian-pan-african

All I can say is on different sites I have kind of 'researched' the Nigerian response - and we are completely the 'wrong' crowd because Nigerians do not give half a hoot about funding another Nigerian on a kickstarter or similar site project. They will waka-pass you faster than lightning.

Don't believe me - How many response are on the NL Spider Story page? Go to their Kickstarter page and check how many 'Nigerian' names show up as 'donators'? So it's sad but true.

The best thing you can do is - a lot of research and then make your 'pitch' as good and as powerful as any other 'funded' project on kickstarter and then pitch it to 'the rest of the world'.

Good luck with it.
