Me thinks August 14. Is too far, i mean, how many days does it take to cook up a poem?

So, could bring the date nearer, this month latest, lets get the contest kicking already! sad

Cuddlemii:

REMEMBER, ONLY 20 POETS WOULD QUALIFY FOR THE NEXT ROUND.

Does it mean you will need 20 different designers for them? In a case where we aren't up to 20 designers, can a designer work with more than one poet?

I see your point, but be honest what's the longest it has taken you to complete a poem and how different was it from the rest.
Mine was 6 months and it turned out great, my shortest lasted less than 10 mins.
Time may not necessarily affect quality but it sure gives ample upportunity to get inspired, lose inspiration, get it back, cancel and whatnot.
Its pretty different when you are writing free style and when you are restricted to a topic of someone else's choice, I guess more time is needed for proper delivery. #just my thoughts#

Jcob: Can I still join the competition as a poet?

Yes, the competition is open to everyone, and anyone can join/submit at their own convenience in Round 1.
Regardless of whether they specified their interest on time or on this thread.
The list is just to have an idea of the no of contestants, and keep things organized, in order for people to monitor the progress.

6 months for a poem! shocked
even if were a novel!

Anyway like i said, i can pen down a poem within a short time, especially when am really emotional or under a certain inspiration. Writing a poem shouldn't be a struggle, it something that comes from deep within and that's the beauty of it. One can't feel the same way every hour or every month, in the next month or hour, you can pen down the poem differently. So why the waste, erasing and rewriting?

When i write a poem, the only thing i can possibly go back to change are words and maybe to brush up on the rhymes. others remain static.

A poem should flow out from a person in a particular situation at a particular time, and emotion don't remain the same always. That exactly is my point.

(Atleast, am an example of that).

My mom is Spanish, my dad is an aborigine from Australia, grew up in China, moved to Lesotho when I was 15, attended a boarding school in the mountains with village fellas, did English as a third additional language, this thing isn't my mother's tongue. grin grin grin grin that's the best I could come up with...

the pursuit of perfection has its price (time and efforts), I discovered it was just an illusion (beauty is in the eyes of the beholder), your work is perfect when you believe it so. Anybody can finish a "poem" but not all can make a "poem" a master piece.
writer's block isn't just a myth you know. Anyways, its great knowing their are worthy poets around.
Goodluck in the competition (and don't say you don't need it), if we make it to the finals, I'll be wanting the goodluck backcheesy,,
