Nocturnal Naija By Jeff Pierce by AnOlderAmerican(m): 2:19am On Sep 05, 2013
Pressing someone's neck at night
Blessings come when sweet meet frightening
Songs rise as if steam from the mangroves and swamps
Throughout Najia hungry lovers whisper needs and wants
Hyenas weep and bad man creep both willing to kill for the last laugh
In the thick green bush creatures push as they leap into piles of leaves, boxes, cans, plastics, and broken glass
Nocturnal Najia give us some gold and silver to wear
Anything and everything a precious gift from your land we share
From the village square to the dialects drizzling among heavy humid air
What of the night Nigeria where have all the wild beast gone?
Have they ran from the wind and fire or do they quietly await the dawn?
