[/color] The issue of the two cargo warehouses closure has been the content of the news around Nigeria freights forwarding agents in Nigeria, in the UK and around the world. While the clearing agents in Nigeria cannot operate due to the warehouse closure, there are backlogged of goods that are waiting to be cleared in the two warehouses Nahco and Sahcol. Cargo agents in the UK had their activities stalled due to the inability to send their customers stuff to Nigeria as a result of the ongoing scenario. What is the cause of this? The director general of customs in Nigeria ordered the immediate closure of these warehouses due to some alleged corrupt practices looming in the cargo handling department. By far the closures seem like a quick fix to these corruptions but the big question remains whether or not corruption would be things of the past in the sector. The closure however would only serve as a temporary measure as supposed dealing with the root cause of the problem. It is annoying though that the average clearing agents trying to survive by earning a living from what they do daily would stand to suffer the most. Some clearing agents had resorted to playing football as supposed going on with their daily business. The big cats who are the main perpetrator are still carrying on doing their own job while exporters abroad and the local clearing agents are loosing money on daily basis resulting from the warehouses closures.
