The trigger pressure required to open fire with an assault rifle is typically on the order of 3 to 5 pounds of finger-pull. In a tense situation where incoming fire is present, guns are gripped MUCH tighter, whereby if a finger slips off the trigger guard with the gun pointed at innocents, the trigger will be pulled BY MISTAKE, and a burst of live fire will jelly-fish anything in front of the weapon.

In short, the guns MUST stay pointed vertically UP or DOWN until the instant an enemy combatant is to be engaged, AND NOT ONE MOMENT SOONER.
