The 4-day siege at Westgate mall in Nairobi, Kenya is finally over. Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta addressed the nation a few hours ago, saying they have defeated the terrorists and arrested eleven of them. The president said three floors of the mall collapsed during clearing efforts and trapped some people. He said Kenyan forces killed 5 terrorists and are currently sweeping the mall for explosives.

Mr Kenyatta said 61 civilians and 6 soldiers were killed in the deadly mall slaughter that started on Saturday, and carried out by Al Qaeda linked militant group, Al Shabaab. Almost 200 people were injured while 65 people are still unaccounted for. The Kenyan president said he can't confirm the nationality of the terrorist. He also declared three days of mourning.

May the souls of the people we lost rest in peace...amen. May we never see this again.

It is so easy to get guns and ammunitions like in america and for people that are ready to die,they can decide to start shooting anywhere,armed to the teeth to cause as much damage as they can before they are taken out.And it is more porous in african where there are no kind of security networks to monitor movements and transactions.

I think they will still need to identify the victims/hostages to be sure none of the terrorists disguised as a hostage in order to escape. The world detained would be more appropriate here. Like someone rightly said, the above pix shows victims who are being rescued but asked to raise their hands up because terrorists could be among them. This is to forestall any attempt to cause chaos while leading them away. The first three people dressed in black and red in the pix look like cultists.

The lesson Nigerians and our politicians should learn from this is that Kenyans and their people did not politicize this issue, everyone rallied round to see that they rescue the hostages. Kenyans stood as one. But if it were in this country, it would have been ACN or APGA or the other parties blaming PDP, Or christains blaming Muslim, Yorubas/Igbo/Hausas and other tribes blaming the other tribes.
Pls lets learn put the country first before politics, tribe and religion.
