This article explains what it takes to gain admission into any of the Nigeria universities. Before admission is given to anybody, there are certain conditions one needs to meet.


Nigeria, as a country has a population of over 160 million. In Africa, Nigeria has the highest population and is being considered as the giant of Africa. With this huge population, more than 50% of the citizen stops their education at primary and secondary school level. Many of these people wish to further their education up to tertiary school but due to one circumstance or the other, they were not able to do so. Getting admission into any of the Nigerian University is not as easy as one thinks.
There are number of condition one needs to meet before you can be given admission. Some of the conditions include

1) Good WASSCE / NECO Results: for you to be giving admission into the any of Nigerian tertiary institution , you must have obtained at less 5 credit passes in any subjects which must include English and Mathematics. In Nigeria there are two different bodies that normally organize O level examination. They are West Africa Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination and National Examination Council. On of the requirement of getting admission in the university is that the applicant must possess at less 5 credit in either WASSCE or NECO at a maximum of 2 sittings. What this means is that you can combine at most 2 results from the same O level body.
2) Good Jamb Result: For over (20) twenty years now, Jamb has been in existence. JAMB stands for Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. For you to be given admission, you need to enroll for JAMB Examination.
JAMB Examination is normally schedule once in a year and you need to score at least 180 in your examination before any school will consider you for admission.
3) PUME: This stands for Post University and Matriculation Examination. This is another exams one needs to pass before you can be considered for admission. This examination is being organized by each school to filter school based on their own standard. Before one can exam, he or she must have score at least 180 in JAMB. Now base on your performance in PUME, you will be given admission to study in the school.
On the other hand some universities offer 2 year diploma program. You can use your diploma certificate to gain admission into the university. Instead of starting from year one, the person will start from year two.

As you can see, getting admission into Nigeria Universities is not that easy. One needs to be serious and this will go a long way in helping one to get better Jobs in Nigeria when one is through with his or her own studies.

Studying in Nigeria University is also not that easy. You may not compare it with studying aboard. Here in Nigeria, most things are done theoretically. That's why most people prefer studying aboard where everything is practical driven.
In conclusion, if you are planning to school in any of Nigerian school, you must be prepared, and brilliant. More also, you must have some finical back up because studying here in not free.
