Why should the Federal Government Aid state Universities as demanded by ASUU. If a state sets up a university, is it not its responsibility to fund such universities. State government are in the habit of setting up universities in the home town of the the governors that are in power at that material time what is the federal Government business with that.

Sormeh: If the FG actually signed the much talked about agreement in 2009, there's no way they could have done so without understanding its implication. So, it is the FG who is hypocritical here for failing to honour the document. These people are fighting for us all. When those idi©ts are embezzling up there with impunity nobody calls for heads. Abeg let's fight for quality education once and for all.

I support ASUU. The government should honour the 2009 agreement or no lectures.
But I feel that instead of this rally they ought to be doing more on advocacy and sensitization as the general public have no idea on what the rift between ASUU and FG is all about.

Is it the administration of gej that signed the agreement? ASUU should start a renegotiation since there has been a change of government.

3ace: I really don't see anything wrong in the above demands by ASUU. These are for the benefit of our educational system. A while ago, I saw market women on TV who do not really understand the real issue. FG is selfish, insensitive and wicked. Their private pockets are their utmost concern. What a pity!

Which problem do I have? I graduated in the 90's. An employer of labour now. I know Nigeria politicians and their dubious attitude very very well that's why I am telling you students to be careful of your support for them. Supporting them has no good to yield for you.
ASUU is not ready to be intimidated even with the no work, no pay thing. Federal govt cannot do anything more than that to ASUU. They can't sack them either. If they sack them, where will they get the required number of professors and Phd holders to replace them? Currently, the number of profs and PHDs on ground are not even enough for the universities we have in Nigeria. So what do you gain by blaming ASUU that knows these facts and are not ready to shift ground? Is it not better you people push the govt to do their part so that you get back to school? Or you prefer staying at home and blaming ASUU endlessly?

Hahaha...these children sef. Na wa for una reasoning o. Let me tell you that these lecturers have not been paid since 2 months ago. Yet they are not ready to be intimidated. They have experienced this kind of thing before so they are so used to it. Some of them are already doing partime lecturing in the private universities around, some are doing theirs in neighbouring African countries, some are doing other consultancy jobs or business and they are getting good pay. You think they ll sit down and be waiting for FG to pay them? I have a lot of them as friends and they are living their normal life irrespective of the no work, no pay. The demonstration you are seeing here was done by just a chapter of ASUU and it was a medium to enlighten the public on what they are fighting for. Not as people who are hungry and crying to be paid. Pls read OP well and digest it.

ugowell: Hmmmmm!!!!!
Each time I read abt ASUU strike and FG I feel terribly sad and weakened.
If we take a look at d decadence our social, political and economic system, the level of corruption and many other vices, one will discover dat all these unthinkable and immoral acts all started from our universities..
The reason why I said all these things started from our universities is bcoz.......
Our politician are products of our University settings, our parents are also products of this same institutions and finally our lecturers are also product of the rotten university system.
If u take a look at d society at large u will discover that all these vices started from the university settings.
So I guess our president understands ASUU's better Dan we do bcoz he was 1 of dem b4 he went into politics.
So our president knws exactly what dey are fighting for and nt what we tink dey are fighting for.
As my father once told me that its only a thief dat will knw hw to catch a thief.
He also told me dat if two pple are eating and NEPA suddenly takes d light and deyin start lookin for a lamp, it means dat dey don't trust eachother...
What am trying to draw out here is dat ASUU is scrambling for light coz it does nt trust d FG.
So if we really want to cleanse our society from these immoral attitude my brothers and sisters we have to start from our universities coz dats where all these problems started from..........
Thank you brother. Not only the university. It ecompasses every body -followers and leaders. We all have to stop being corrupt and Nigeria go come better.

How I wish Nigerians would think just for once! Alas, we are not very good at using our God-given cerebral powers. Do we need a soothsayer to tell us that a country that has the kind of universities we have in Nigeria can never be anything but a perennial third world country? Does it require a rocket scientist to figure out that the Federal Government is mortgaging the future of our children by leaving education in the doldrums and paying our Senators the highest legislative salaries in the world? Why do we suppose Ghana is investing 30% of its budget on education? Why, pray tell me, is Nigeria ranked so abysmally low in almost all international development scales, such as the recently released Mo Ibrahim African leadership rankings, while smaller countries like Mauritius, Botswana, and Cape Verde are rated so high? Is it too much of an intellectual leap for us to realise that a responsible government does not pick and choose which of its agreements to implement and which to ignore? When will we learn to hold the real wreckers of our country to account? Is it not madness for people to attribute the rot in Nigeria's education sector to the same hapless lecturers who virtually have to coax water out of stone in order to give our children any semblance of qualitative education? I am so exasperated by the tragically contorted reasoning that I have found in some of the comments regarding this ASUU strike. If those comments represent the opinions of a cross-section of Nigerians, then I shudder to think what our future as a nation must be. I pity Nigeria.

What useless agreement. Implement agreement and ruin the economy ? Just because some lecturers want plenty money pumped into the education system.

As if their laziness and corruption is not the major factor killing the education system., They collect bribes, sleep with female students etc.

FG should honour the agreement but should ensure that lecturers are paid per class appearance...I was once in d university where lecturers come to class 4 times a semester and they want to discredit the government like they have always kept to their solemn doctrine of being responsive to student needs.most lecturers are not even worth their salt.they shud understand that takin nigeria's education to d promised land is a gradual process and the injection of the mega funds wholesomely would really nt help. It definitely has to b in piece meal.long live Nigeria

Re: ASUU Holds Street Rallies In Onitsha And Awka. by Kei144(m): 8:05am On Oct 15, 2013
The Federal government made a great mistake in the past. There used to be a fixed ratio between civil service pay and university salary scale (USS). Somewhere along the line, the FG started different salary schemes for different sectors of government workers. There is no determinable ratio between these salary schemes. Any group of government workers that can prove that they are different from others are given different salary scheme. The politicians exploited this arrangement to give themselves outrageous jumbo pay. ASUU goes into endless strikes because of this same arrangement. Medical doctors are also into many strikes because they feel special. Judiciary sector has long been given special salary scale. ASUP is flexing their muscles, to show that they are special enough for jumbo pay. Primary and secondary school teachers once attempted flexing of muscles, but they failed because there are may unemployed graduates that wish to earn what NUT members are currently earning.

The real solution to all these madness is that Nigerian people should demand that the FG adopts one salary scale for all its workers. If any sector of he Federal civil service is so special, the specialness should attract some allowances that should be only a percentage of the general salary scale and the percentage not be greater than 100%. The one salary scale should apply to everybody--including politicians. This will create a ceiling for jumbo salary scales. This issue is worthy enough for Occupy Nigeria to act on it.

I pity sate university lecturers who have involved themselves in this ASUU strike, because they will gain nothing from it. Most state universities depend on internally generated revenue for their operation; by keeping the students away all this while, how will these state universities be able to pay the lecturers when the strike is over. And the lecturers will demand to be paid for the months in which they were on strike. I pity Anambra State University the most; their Onitsha rally will not help them at all.

I just wonder what the quality and dedication to lecturing will be like if this is called off without demands being met. 'Taxation' of students will probably compensate for this if FG is not forthcoming with funds....... I know what some Naija lecturers are capable of........too bad
