Is it just me or have the rss feeds from NL of late been recycling stuff from as long as 2 or so months ago? Could it be that a static file is being used as opposed to a dynamic one? If so, y?

If the aim is to prevent pple from choosing whether or not to visit NL thus resulting in lower ad impressions thus resulting in lower revenue to NL, then its a bad idea. Personally, and I am sure others will agree, rather than make me want to visit nairaland for the latest, it is making me want to quit Nairaland altogether, and trust me, I don't want to quit Nairaland o! grin

So can anyone address the above? Thanks,

I'm having exactly the same problems.

I'm a bit familiar with the workings of SMF, so when the feed go disabled [I'm assuming Seun created a static file that pointed to the RSS feed], I went the other way and used query strings. Sadly, RSS got disabled entirely.

I rely on RSS feeds to get the latest info. If the current setup queries the database on each request, then that's bad [I noticed NL became faster whenever I stopped requesting RSS feeds].

If Seun could schedule a cron job that runs a PHP script that builds the RSS feed, say every ten minutes, it's not going to be much of a problem We'd have a win-win situation -- users see the latest news and go straight to reply the ones that interest them instead of prowling, and there's no problem with the server load from many people making essentially the same request for an RSS feed.

diddy4:

RSS used to be = Really Simple Syndication. a method of getting the latest news headlines and snippets of news from a site without actually visiting it. Here's an article on RSS from Wikipedia.

The smart thing to do if you want to contact me is to send me an email. The XML feed was disabled due to the same "excess load" problem that has led me to disable Unread Replies and other similar functions.
