We can hear from God in our dreams or just in a few seconds vision.

we can even hear from God via friends and family.



my question is this, some people do hear from God audibly like when talking with a friend.......I wanna believe this is one of the effective ways God can deliver one from a die-minute impending danger.

Permit me to add a twist to this discuss. Some people lay a great deal to the conscience as the seat of God's voice to man. I disagree. The conscience of men is the measure of right and wrong for that man. Thats all. Therefore a Muslim who doesn't pray 5 times a day or fast at Ramadan, an animist that eats food meant for sacrifice, a Hindu that eats cow, and a Christian taught to tithe but eats his in one month, will all find their conscience striking them. They had programmed their mindset with a standard of good and bad and will be conscience stricken if they break any of these.

This is the reason the bible calls us to renew our minds, Romans 12:2 and to shed off dead works. When we are properly taught God's word, our minds begin to learn true right and wrong, Hebrew 6. And maturity will be doing the right things all the time. When God speaks he transcends mere conscience. I am convinced that God speaks through our spirit in contact with his Spirit. The conscience is however is on the seat of the soul.

I listen to some ministers say people should heed altar calls bc they are conscience stricken. This is wrong. Its the reason such people return to sin again when the effect of conscience has worn off. If a foreigner who has never heard the gospel was to come and hear such a minister, his conscience will never move him. But if God speaks to his spirit he will be converted. Conversion is God speaking to a man spirit and that man making a decision in conjunction with his soul.

Well, that's my position. I would like to hear other people thinking on whether conscience is God speaking to men.

@ Op God speaks to us in divers ways but I believe the first question to be asked is if we care to listen and obey. He can speak through our friends, situations, disappointments ( trying to avert evil), dreams etc. But if you really want to learn the art of hearing God's voice, you'll need to pay very keen attention to your spirit man! You can start this way by learning to read your bible. God always speak to u when you study his word. Pay very key attention during and after study you'll here his majestic voice, small and still in your spirit man whisper to your spirit. How to know if God has really spoken, whatever he says must tally with his word! God bless you!

My dear sister woman, Tgirl4real (similar to my wife's email ID), this idea of 'God told me or God spoke to me.........' is one of the tricks employed by this later day christian clergies (esp the pentecostal ones) to deceived the gullible followers and they will foolishly part with their hard earned money. U raised many salient questions in ur original thread like evidence that God spoke to anyone or if another person heard God speaking to the claimant. Though, they will come with the useless argument that spiritual things are foolishness to the mundane man or can not be discern with the physical eyes. And gullible followers will buy that too. these things that are not scientifically proven cannot hold water. The same goes with the idea of heaven and hell. No scientific proof that they exist and therefor may most likely not be true as they are same trick from ages to put fear in us and make us fall in line.
The truth is that divine been/creator of us (by whatever name He or She may be known has given us intuition/thinking faculty. This differentiate us from lower animals. He/She gave us conscience to know good from evil. Drumma boy was right with the analysis of office romance and working on ailing marriage. By doing the right thing, we may assume that God has spoken to us. If the wrong thing is done and we are caught, of course we will blame an imaginary devil. To think that if God speaks to us that it must be only the Christians or via the holy bible is an insult to other religions. sometimes,some folks like you talk so much about the Scriptures that you didn't know that they are the experiences of christians like you who penned down what they have become on their journey into Life.....they're general things you should expect in your journey,they're foundations....not how God is going to deal with you in your personal life.
The way Paul spake differs from James,the Lord's brother....And that of Peter differs from John or Jude. If you are familiar with this folks, without knowing chapters,you will know who wrote a passage if someone just quote from any of them.

A lot of havoc has been caused in christiandom, homes, marriages, businesses and even in individual lives because of this short phrase "thus sayeth the Lord" or "the Lord spoke to me".

If you claim to have heard from God before or you do hear from him constantly, could you please explain to us:

- how to identify the voice of God

- how does the voice of God sound?

- do you have examples similar to your experience in scriptures?

- do you have witnesses who could testify to have heard God's voice when he spoke to you like Saul on the way to Damascus in Acts 9.

- what is the purpose of His speaking to you today?

- what is the place of God's word - Holy scriptures in the lives of believers today?

Kindly provide answers with enough scriptural backing.

God can speak to you audibly, by dream/vision and through His word.

How do you know it is God that spoke to you? That what you were told came to pass does not necessarily mean it came from God.

God told Moses in Deut. 29 : 29, "The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law."

If anything you hear, that did not make you to obey all the words of the law of God is not from God, even if they happened the moment you heard them. This is the acid test of knowing if it was God that spoke to you or not.

Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:" John 10 : 27. When you are born again, you are encoded to hear from God just like a new born is encoded to know the voice of the mother even in a crowd.

Either u believe it or not God still speaks to his people. pappyrose: Well.....for me I believe reading the bible alone does not guarantee hearing from God because you can read out of context and use it to sooth yourself. A portion of the scriptures says the letter kills, its the Spirit of God that gives live. So many people have read the bible and gotten themselves more confused.
The Holy Spirit is the believer's link to God, 1 John 2: 26-27 " I've written to warn you about those who are trying to deceive you. But they're no match for what is embedded deeply within you—Christ's anointing, no less! You don't need any of their so-called teaching. Christ's anointing teaches you the truth on everything you need to know about yourself and him, uncontaminated by a single lie. Live deeply in what you were taught."

This anointing is referring to the presence of the Holy Spirit. Jesus told the disciples that the Holy Spirit will teach them all things.

We may read the bible and still not be able to hear God if we don't ve a personal communion with the Holy Spirit who explains the scriptures to us.
There is no magic or shortcut to hearing from God except we pray for the infilling of the Holy Spirit and also pray that our ears be opened to the voice of God. We must also spend time in fellowship with the Holy Spirit.
Each time God speaks to me or lays a burden in my heart, He always confirm it with His word and gives me peace. When this happens, then I'm convinced that God has spoken to me.
Sometimes when I'm confused about something I feel I ve heard God about, I take a lot of time to seek God in prayers for Him to give me another confirmation.

You cannot separate hearing from God and reading the bible, remember the Holy Spirit and God are one (Trinity: Father, Son and the Holy Spirit). You cannot be filled with the Holy Spirit if you don't have the word of God in you and that is why the bible says let the word of God dwell richly in you, he says as new born babes, desire the sincere milk of the word that ye may grow thereby. Hearing and listening level of a 1year old baby and that of a 15year old baby are different, it is the word that makes us grow to that level. We need to study the bible in order to know the ''acts'' of God and how He speaks so that when a contrary voice, idea, dream, vision, etc presents itself you will know that God is not involve. You cannot read it too much, infact the more the better

You can read the same verse of the bible a million times with different messages, the same scripture can solve different questions in your mind depending on the interpretation by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is activated or invited during meditation on what you've read from the Bible. Remember, this book of the law shall not depart from thy mouth, thou shall meditate in it day and night........
