I was sitting alone today when series of memories came flashing across my mind, I took my time to think of which one I'll re-live its moments. Then, suddenly a new one flashed and without any hesitation I burst into laughter. It was soo loud that if a stranger was close by, he'd have had me in chains with the thought that I might be losing it.
Not that the event as of then was vey funny but the memory and the final realisation of the lesson learnt made it something to laugh about. Now, I'll narrate the whole thing as it happened....
I used to have this girl that she and I were very close, so close you would think we were dating (though, I craved for it but was scared to lose her friendship and trust in the event that she turns me down). Fortunately, then came along whatsapp. As it is often experienced for those who chat regularly, you find enough courage to say sooo many things over chat than you will in a face-to-face situation, I confronted her with my deepest and inner-most desire, she sent a 'lol' in response to my msg. I started giving her all the loving words that I had in brain, all the Indian love songs I had memorised (in English though), and all she kept sending back to me was: lol, very funny, can't stop laffing, TY u r sooo funny, wo leave me I don tire to laff.
I got sooo frustrated that I turn am to joke, I sent her the following message: oya yab me na.... Abi u won't insult me ni? But she said: 'y wl I yab u?' 'shebi na play u dey play'. I couldn't type again and when I found the courage, all I could type was - hmmmm, okay oooo. And with that, I never mentioned it to her again and we kept being friends.
Now, here comess the interesting part. A few months after the chat incident, she called me during extra-cool (do people still do that stuff?), the call wasn't the surprise but the fact that she no inform me earlier, cos she'll never wake me unless its important. I reluctantly picked it up and the following conversation followed;
Me - hello *weakly nd half sleepy*
She - hey love
*i smiled but was shocked* that was the first time she'd call me that.
Me - *still smiling* love ke? What's up joor?
She - nothing much ooo, I just couldn't sleep and I needed to talk to you.
Me - *feeling concerned* what's wrong? What's bothering you sooo much that's keeping you awake?
She - its been happening for a while now and I can't keep it to myself anymore. *she paused* I love you sooo much TY, I know you do too, I didn't want to feel cheap and easy-pick for you that's why I lied that I thought you were joking the other time you were saying it over chat.
*i allowed her to finish everything in her mind before saying anything*, so carefully I said -
Me - girlfriend, as much as you are correct to say I love you, it is also correct for me to say it was thing of the moment. I'm so sorry to hear this coming from you but since I left home (I had gained admission into university after the incident), a lot of things have happened that we hadn't had time to talk about, one of which is the fact that I already have a girl in my life right now and so far, I have no reason to cheat on her. M sorry to say this to you but it aint possible anymore cos I'm not who I used to be. *i was trying hard not to laugh and say 'shebi u dey form van damme ni' and I succeeded in ending the call on a friendly note.
Since then, she's been acting nice to me with the hope of an 'opening' for her.
That memory made me think about how many times so many girls pretend to be hard to get only to be on the losing end in the long run, and when they fall 'prey' of the so-called 'players', they starting crying wolf that all guys are bad. My advice to you ladies out there is, never pretend to a man who certainly have feelings for, cos your heart is flexible and easily manipulated, that of a man does not dwell or linger on a particular situation *except in certain cases tho*.....
