Your friend has taken a noble decision to help someone in need. But he should first seek advice from a Nephrologist who will assess his own health condition to ascertain if he is okay to donate a kidney. His kidneys must be filtering perfectly well with a Glomeruli Filtration Rate (GFR) of not less than 100. This is very important for as soon as one kidney goes away, the remaining one will be working at half capacity. In a situation where the donor's original two kidneys weren't working well, the donor will start to experience health issues such as high blood pressure, oedema and other symptoms which affect patients with Chronic Kidney Diseases (CKD). This, he must be aware of.

Therefore, the best way to go about it is to first book an appointment with a Nephrologist.
