Todays Women And Those Of Then by suregurl(f): 8:52am On Oct 11, 2014
Gone are the days in which girl-child are deprived of the opportunity to go to school. Those days in which educating a girl-child was seen as a total waste as it was believed that sooner or later the girl-child will leave her father's house for her husband's house, in her husband's house, she has the responsibility of taking care of her husband's house, children and his other properties in his absence (otherwise refers to full housewife), while others performed the responsibilities as an housewife and also engaged in trading/farming/fishing and the likes. It was formerly believed that boy-child have better academic intelligent compare to a girl-child, ''i don't know where they got the belief from. The fact that girls who are naturally and always challenged by the boys does not mean boys are more blessed in academic field. Girls as being more intelligent when they have the opportunity to study together with the boys. Their academic abilities are discovered when they have this opportunity. The girls will be able to prove to the boys that good academic ability and experience have nothing to do with differences in gender. Boys can claim excellence in physical ability but not in mental ability. When a boy and a girl have been given the same educational opportunity, operating in a healthy competition , the society will do away with the old woman's slogan ''boys have better academic excellence than the girls''.

There is one thing i realise in the mixed classes of genders. Among the top ten students in class, you may likely gat only a girl, that only girl will definitely be exceptional and standout from his male counterparts. The next female student after the outstanding girl may be very far.

The issue of girl-child education in Nigeria should have been a long forgotten issue by now but unfortunately it is still an issus in some parts of Nigeria. I can remember asking a girl-child(almagiri thou), don't you want to be like me(i'm still a student o), she said, 'YES' she doesn't want to be like me, i asked why, she replied 'she sees me and my co-female (students) as prostitutes'. It's a well known philosophy that if you educate a man, you educate an individual but if you educate a woman, you are educating a nation. It can indeed be argued that female education is even more important than the education of a male child. This is so because the girl will one day become a mother and raise children. It is well known that good nurturing and training of a child from cradle is in the hands of a mother, educated mother therefore raises her children properly because she will be enlightened and economically empowered.

Fallacy!!! cheesy cheesy Equal in what terms? I think you meant to say "equal in human rights." It is even absurd to say you are equal to the next girl, just because you both have . Not to talk about equating XY and XX - absurd(Genes are responsible for the development of an individual and are transmitted INDEPENDENTLY from one generation to another without undergoing ANY ALTERATION). The king, the ultimate a species can hope to be - A MAN. The work of A MAN is to REASON, while a woMAN is to POP OUT babies, all other things are secondary. sad

So we should waste our hard earned money to empower women, didn't we say we are equal? Women should suffer their bones and work for money to send 'girls' to school, instead of telling a man what to do with his money. Nonsense!!!

She sounds like someone suffering from trauma. Feel nothing for her but pity cos she's gone through a lot.
@suregurl Women are expected to outperform men in schools cos they have ability to memorize and learn fast, unlike men who critique teachers before accepting any data. Educating a woman is like making a woman a overlearned bitch, who produces nothing but shìt in return. Have you learned of pay gap in USA? Its because men are considered more productive per bcunit wage. If a woman should learn, she should stop at degree, except if she's 'exception-ally' brilliant. What separates a man from woman is not academic brilliance but 'common sense.'

@carefreewannabe I think you agreed with my post on polygamy. wink

Yes, gone are the days women were denied access to formal education, backed with fallacious and untenable reasons, it was that bad.
Yes, these are the days women have been given equal oppurtunity with the male folks, with regard to access to formal education, it is unarguably very good.
As to comparing women's intellectual prowess with men, that isn't necessary. Women could be more intelligent than men in some cases, yes, likewise men could be even in major cases. So, I don't understand why the former should be stressed as a big achievement to the female folks, or are we (men) not equal to you(women) again? If we are equal, then its balanced. Even going by what Tolexander posted, you would discover there are only few exceptional women, compared to men. I'm not sounding biased here, its just an obvious fact, and I trust you won't deny being aware of that fact.
I'll like to use this medium to kick against a notion that doesn't sound well to my hearing, talking about; when you educate a man, you educate an individual, then when you educate a woman, you educate a nation. It should fairly be: when you educate both a man and a woman, you educate a nation (can men's influence on their children be under estimated?).
In as much as women education cannot be over emphasized (we regard that), the campaign should not be unecessarily driven with sentiment.
