It makes perfect sense that any responsible Govt would want to protect her citizens. While some peeps may see a white man walking on the streets of P/H, others see 6 million naira (minimum) walking. That my friend is very tempting in an impoverished country like ours. If any nigerian should feel bad seeing a warning like that his anger should be directed against our Govt for not taking similar steps to protect her citizens

But is the Nigeria we live in as bad as the report claim? they are clearly exaggerating. It is nonetheless sobering

why is it that we nigerians always expend much more energy defending than actually correcting flawed impressions about us?if a foreigner calls us criminals, let us endeavour to change that perception rather than fighting tooth and nail to make the foreigner change his/her mind, china, korea e.t.c al went through the same thing and rather than wasting their time defending, they got stuck in and we can all see the testimony, love them or hate them the undeniable fact is that they r one of the top 3 in the whoole world, the largest standing army, richest e.t.c

there is nothing that this guy said that is not true. Everything is true. He even left out one vital information. Avoid travelling to Nigeria during election time. Crime rate increase by 12 fold
Arrange for a rechargable lantern, electricity can go on and off anytime

So we should be more interested in making the foreigner 'change his mind'. Interesting. . .

Why are we reacting like we dont know nigeria is a hellish dump?
Re: How Do You Feel As A Nigerian After Reading This! by chrishenzo: 1:39pm On Jun 12, 2009
It is a pity how many Nigerians have been beclouded by what the media say. Many Nigerians have lost all hopes.

Hackney, you called your country a hellish dump. Please tell me what I should call a person that sees no future. Have you been to hell before? The problem that most Nigerians have today is always looking for one fault or the other.Even when there is no fault, we seem to create one just to be satisfy with the day. Many of us think only of the bad things that come from the country but failed to recognise the good deeds.

Hackney, please tell me a country that has no problem, and I will be the first to wipe out Nigeria from the surface of the earth.

Finally, I think the WHOLE WORLD IS SICK.

To honestly speak,
All that information has been captured through the eyes of a white person, (Australian embassy worker to be precise), the little information given by the Australian embassy is processed as a big mess, for them to splatter all over their website!
to be honest I find it typical for a white person to exaggerate about a country other than their own.
Also to take on board I personally find Australians racist without a doubt, if you have time check on youtube, type in the Nigerian film industry, and it should come out with a few mini documentaries about Nigeria done by Australians.
I don't feel hurt about any of that information, I was born in England despite anything I love Nigeria, and I make sure I make frequent trips, (was even there like 3 weeks ago lol).

Lets not fight over issues like this.
The Aussies have apologised over the travel advise and the latest one reads;

Nigeria is the safest place to visit on earth.
Electricity supply is 24/7.The roads are
Niger Delta is richer than Luxemboug, cleaner than heaven and wonderfully prosperous.
The crime rate in naija is -1%.
We strongly encourage our citizens to travel to Nigeria.

Singed;The Australia Govt.

Why is the truth so bitter?

Yeah, I read one like this some time ago - I think it was World Travel Guide. The reporter also did one hell of a job on Nigeria and I was fuming until I read towards the end when the guy said that at some jetty in the east of Nigeria some Nigerian kids tossed pepper at him and called him racist names. I think this tit-bit information was meant as an additional deterrent to would-be-travellers to Nigeria. But it made my day.

Nigeria is such a magnificent country culturally, such a beacon of black potential, its no wonder the west would stop at nothing to see her destroyed.

I'm not white and everything on this site and the FCO UK site is true - why are u people lying to yourself. Do u know how many people I have heard of being kidnapped - one of my cousins was kidnapped less than 5 mins from my fathers house and I should leave a country where I can call the police on 999 and come to Nigeria unprepared wit the risk of rape, kidnapping, mugging, armed robbers all in the name of "patriotism" abeg make person hear word.

My travel insurance will not even cover me for travel to Nigeria as I made the mistake of being honest and saying i'm Ibo and I will probably visit the south eastern region - now i am seriously looking hard for a company to cover me or lie on my application - do i get this problem when i travel to america or spain?

From FCO website

Experience has shown that, should you be unlucky enough to be caught up in an armed robbery, you should immediately comply with the attackers' demands. Those who have suffered injury or worse during such attacks have been perceived as not complying fully or quickly enough.  The vast majority of those who endure such attacks, and follow this advice, do so without lasting physical harm.  - is this a lie

Basic, limited medical facilities are available in some parts of Nigeria.
  - na lie? if this one is a lie why do people who have money not leave their wives to give birth in Nigeria but send them abroad, abeg all these people defending Nigeria should use thier time to make it a better place.

Did you invent medical insurance?

I am sure millions of Nigerians have never been waylaid by armed robbers. Actually, you’re more likely to be attacked in Britain than in Nigeria. I know so many Nigerians whose children have been attacked by hopeless British children and their silly gangs that they have sent their children home to school.

Some people have more money than sense. With I50 million Nigerians, I’m sure a good percentage were born in Nigeria

I suggest you sit back from your, laptop/computer screen and chill out!!!!
You act like robbery and crime doesn't happen anywhere else, Isn't the same country where you dial 999, the same country where getting stabbed, or shot (even in broad daylight) is the norm?, and you don't even have to comply with anything!!.  undecided  My youngest uncle got killed because 4 youths asked him "What are you looking at?", the same country where when 999 was dialed they wasted time, and the time they took could have saved his life?, and the same country that only puts out what they feel people will take, (yes this country has alot to be shameful about but they don't lay it out for you to see), or the same country where "being not white is not always alright" So Face it!!, Nigeria is and will be Nigeria, so as the World will not stop being the World, no place is perfect!!!
Re: How Do You Feel As A Nigerian After Reading This! by Nobody: 7:26am On Jun 13, 2009
ok my bad Nigeria is perfect.

Just like everywhere else in the world depends on where u live - u live in an inner city area ur bound to experience some sort of crime - but isn't it sad I can't invite my friends to my wedding cos of the fear of kidnapping. My friends sister was kidnapped (8 years old) last month when she came back for her trado. Crime happens anywhere, u just have to be careful wherever u are - I never said this country was perfect or safe, I have travelled to many countries and as a woman I do feel safer in other places and not my own country. This is just my personal experience and don't knock me for it.

At the end of the day I don't think its wrong for a country to warn its citizens against known risks when travelling - I use this website whenever i go anywherenot just Nigeria

Not to be rude or anything, Yes I live in an inner city area but then what makes you as a person think that the area you live in, is not bound to such things?, more over my uncle's incident happened out of an inner city area!!.
I can't disagree with you where you state that crime happens everywhere, but then you can't say every single corner in Nigeria is unsafe. Just like you, I've been to loads of other countries, but have still experienced lots of things good and bad in Nigeria, but it doesn't stop me from not going there. More over, the people that can justify Nigeria, are the people who actually live, eat, breath, sleep there everyday of their lives, not some white person who spends 2/3 days collecting bad info in a sack and pasting it on the net. Have they released your friends sister? (as she is a little girl) undecided, and if you can't invite your friends to your wedding, where would your wedding hold? (just a question of thought) smiley

gone are the days I used to worry myself over what the media says. . .but meanwhile can someone please call prof Dora? Thought this was her duty?

me thinks we should just concentrate on building the nation and making the people prosperous. Every other thing will come after.
