Etihad Airways Experience- What Do I Do? by miccodb(m): 5:02pm On Nov 12, 2014
Good day all. Been thinking of next action line since etihad airways told me my money i gone after i bought a ticket that was non refundable and non changeable if you miss ypur flight. In dis case i disnt miss my flight but i was not allowed to travel because i didnt have a fit to fly certificate cos i had a medical visa. They said they have a new law that medical visa holders must have a fit to fly certificate. Through out my process of buying the ticket online i didnt see that requirement and i was able to book a ticket and pay successfully only to be stopped bt same etihad. In d end i wasnt allowed to fly as they said the fit to fly takes 72hrs to process. In trying to move flight i was told that 400k is gone cos the type of ticket i bought cannot be modified.
I need advise cos im thinking of hiring a lawyer and writing then with the aim of going to court.

Any advices?
Re: Etihad Airways Experience- What Do I Do? by Daresh(f): 8:35pm On Nov 12, 2014
You need a medical clearance from them if you have a medical visa. Non refundable and non changeable tickets are usually cheaper so you need to know the fare rules. This is where a good travel agent could have helped. I don't know about court, you agreed to the fare rules before buying the ticket.

I would rather suggest that you first go to their head office to lodge your claims and tell them what u have in mind to do. The people working at the airport may not be the best to approach in this case. Discuss with them in a kind manner. Also read in the website the conditions of holders of medical visa. If ever u didn't see the clause concerning having a medical certificate, I think u have a good case.

Rules are rules. Its not likely u will get a refund just because you didnt knw the terms of ur visa/ticket

Why would i go thru a complete booking process without being intimated on reservations on specific visa types? No consumer protection. Can only happen in nigeria n nnothing will happen

Why don't you send a written complaint to their head office on

https://www.etihad.com/en-ae/about-us/contact-us/feedback/

Explain exactly what happened with the why, how, when and where. Include your ticket and flight numbers etc.
Let them know that you were unaware of the medical clearance requirement either via agents, website etc.
Inform them that you would welcome a written response within a reasonable time frame eg one week.

An unsatisfactory response may require that you escalate your complaint to the nigeria avaiation authority, legal advice as you see fit.

Good luck!

Before you go waste your already short funds on legal battle, go to their website and read the guidelines..these companies are smart, they have included conditions like this in fine print and you must have consented to it unknowingly.

If it was written in fine print and you didn't read it before signing it or buying the ticket then no remedy!!! You have just learnt a very expensive lesson!!! Always read the fine prints in any transaction or contract!

I just tried to make a random booking and this is what i got. I believe you were misinformed because this info is even shown before you even finish making the booking. My advice is go to the main offices, if that doesn't work only then can you resort to taking legal action.

The duty in law is NOT with Eithad! to tell you all the details.(they are printed for you to read.
It is YOUR duty to TELL THEM of your medical condition.
It is YOUR DUTY to read and fullfill any and all conditions with your ticket.
You do not have any case to recover your money, it is lost.

If you paid by credit card, you can contact your credit card company and ask for a chargeback.

This sounds strange. My lawyer says i have a case cos the agreement is to airlift me and thatsvwhat i paid for and id if they have reservations then it should be expressly stated. Ders bo where along the booking process that says i need another document asides my ticket.

Yes i know non refundable for noshow. I showed up but they required another document which is a fit to fly otherwise no lifting. Absolutely wrong in my understanding

But your understanding is wrong.
You did not read and abide by the airlines conditions.
Did you tell the person selling the ticket about your medical problem and get permission (in writing)to fly?

I can complete a booking unassisted online. So who am i to tell abt condition? And y do i need to even? Last time i travelled with same ticket all they did was call their doc to confirm if i could fly n he okayed me. So y tell me abt a doc thats not expressly stated on the procedure of booking online?

No i mean the part where it shows that you can change the date for $60. I dont know why they are saying your money is gone when it clearly states that u can change the date for $60
