Jealous lover receives fire burns for interupting girlfriend’s talk with his rival
Thursday, December 11, 2008
A jealous lover, who challenged his girlfriend for daring to frolick with another man, has got more than he bargained for, as he was set on fire by his rival.

Adebayo Adenuga, a popular Disc Jokey (DJ) was said to be going out with a girl, simply identified as Blessing, before things went awry between the love birds.

Embattled Adenuga, who stormed the Corporate office of The Sun newspaper in Kirikiri, Lagos, displaying the burns he sustained from the attack from his rival, said trouble started when his girlfriend took away his telephone handset.

He said he was searching for the girl, to collect his handset when he met her in the warm embrace of a member of a local security outfit, simply identified as Okere Yusuf, at the Maza-Maza area of Lagos.

He said: “When I met my sweetheart with Yusuf, I was not bothered whether they were lovers or not. My mission was just to collect my handset from her.”

Continuing, the victim, who was writhing in pains as he narrated his ordeal said: “As I was requesting for my handset from Blessing, Yusuf just stood up and started warning that I had no right to challenge the girl that was discussing with him. I apologized and told him that what I needed from Blessing was just my handset.”

The victim claimed that Yusuf later invited two other men, who joined hands with him to beat him up. “They slapped, kicked and pushed me. They even spat on me. As they were humiliating me, the girl’s mother started pleading with them to leave me alone, but they wouldn’t.”

He alleged that as the two men, invited by Yusuf to join hands in beating him, were still holding him, he quickly collected a lantern and doused him with the kerosene in it and set him on fire.

Adenuga, who armed himself with a medical and a police reports, indicating that the police were aware of the injuries he allegedly sustained, said he did not succeed in getting the handset back.

He, appealed to the Lagos State Commissioner of police, Mr. Marvel Akpoyibo and well meaning Nigerians to, as a matter of urgency, wade into the matter to see that Yusuf and his accomplice are brought to book.

However, when Daily Sun visited Satellite police station, a police officer, who confirmed the incident on condition of anonymity said: “Yes, there was a report like that in this office, we have arrested the girl in question but the said Yusuf and other suspects are still on the run.

When contacted for comments, the State Police spokesman, Mr. Frank Mba said the case had not been reported to him. He said: “As soon as the case is brought to me, I will keep in touch with you.”
