Hello people,

We plan on starting our own laying-birds poultry farm and this thread has been created simply to share what we did and how we went about the processeses.

Stayed with the thread. And please ask questions, query, comment and suggest. In as much we say we do this and this, we stand to be corrected so as to help the next man plan even better.

As of now though, we have read a lot of threads on our intended business from the business forum and agriculture forum and still reading.

Reading and reading, continous information sourcing was the first we did/doing, as soon as the idea became bankable to us.

The need to get in touch with those who have been there before you, whether they succeeded or failed cannot be over-empasised.

Speak with farmers, veterinarians, animal health workers, agricultural field students, agric-product traders. It won't be enough though but every minute spent is worth it.

Oh great.

Broiler or layer? It's always the big question. I know someone who did layers for about 20 years. Small poultry though. Around 500 layers. Within the compound.

But it was still fairly labour-intensive then. Quite profitable sha.

She used point-of-lay birds only in later years.

It would be nice to see how you get on with it.

With the good tips you'll get here, you're sure to have a head-start. But still, if you're new to it all, visiting a farm/poultry to learn from it would help.

Keep us updated bro. I'm into layers too. I will advice you to take some chicks to a vet lab like animal care. They'll do serological test and tell u the right time to give vaccines. Let's learn and share ideas.
