We all come to this site to exercise our freedom of speech and the right to live in a just and civil society, yet we as **Nigerians are Cowards** and won't be brave like Mandela who traded freedom for imprisonment, for the greater good of his people and the generation's to come. He modelled a type of Muhammed, Moses and Christ.

If I suggest we hold a peaceful rally at race course to create awareness of how much we are frustrated as Nigerian's with our leaders, I know I will be on my own.

I haven't met any Nigerian in my life time, having been living in this world experience now for over 50yrs that his willing to sacrifice there freedom and love for money for change or are even willing to take on people to be mentors to and help in shaping their lives.

We will rather be content with the oppression we are currently facing, so far we get goods jobs, can drive flashy or average cars, send our kids to school, buy our wives the latest clothes and be a local champion.

I think being a local champion is still the same reason why certain people, groups, faction or tribal groups are controlling the pot of soup and who eats what, knowing fully well that if things were to be based on merit, then they have no leg to stand on.

How long monkey go they work, way baboon go they chop, its the same people, tribe, factions and party members that have been chopping Nigerians money in the last 40yrs, behaving as if the nations wealth is their birth right, that are still there.

If you guys no be coward, signify your interest to meet up at a venue and we will arrange to mobilise about 5million Nigerians to go to race course or a venue we agree for a peaceful, non-violent non-confrontational rally.

In Athens because they killed only one boy, the police and government see wennnnn! for about a week before peace was restored,.

** May God bless Nigeria **

Yeah! Nigerians maybe cowards for all I know. They're too fat, too comfortable, too rich, too focused on short-term gain to worry about the future.
Which other nation would kill millions of their fellow country men/women and they all stood back and justified it in the name of punishing the Igbos?
Which other country would diminish true patriots that lay their lives on the line for their country; people like Fajuyi, Aminu Kano, Akanu Ibiam, and Ribadu?
Which other country would diminish the roles of people like Soyinka, Gani for the roles of Bode George/Chimaroke Nnamani/Ibori?

with all due respect sir,i beg to disagree with you, nigerians are not cowards, why the average nigerian would not put their necks out is because they have been betrayed by the politicians too many times, remember during the june 12 1993 riots when students were wounded in their hundreds and some ppl even died all for abiola's stolen mandate?when abiola came back what did he say?he said he didnt send anyone to fight or die on his behalf, look at ppl like festus keyamo even adams oshiomole with all his mouth, nigerians listen to them but once they make a name for themselves they start to get close to the rich n corrupt business ppl and politicians, look at the almighty dora akunyili that everyone thought was above board selling her integrity for a mess of porridge imagine all the people that have stood with akunyili even nafdac staffs who have braved danger and death to refuse bribes you think they will believe it if another person comes along shouting anti corruption and sacrifice?ebenezer babatope ,onagoruwa e.t.c ni

all these has reduced the average nigerian mindset to cynicism and siddon look attitude, its very well for you to call people to the national stadium for a protest, but look at it from these people's point of view, what is stopping you from abandoning them if tinubu or yar adua's man  bribes you with some millions?people have resigned themselves to the way things are and dont want to die for a cause when the leadership of the cause will turn round to collect millions.

nigerians fought during abiola june 12
they fought for the uzoma girl that was brutalised by the naval ratings
they supported and fought with nadeco during the abacha/millitary dictatorship
the voice of nigerians made the obj third term thing fail
so nigerians are not cowards, maybe they r not as patriotic yes

Lack of Patriotism and cowardice are on a continuum. Where one begins and the other starts remain a controversy. The ability to bribe and influence leaders of popular opposition points to the root of the problem.

why the average nigerian would not put their necks out is because they have been betrayed by the politicians too many times

Well, if enough of Nigerians make their voices heard loud enough, I believe the politicians that keep betraying them won't keep coming back, no?

look at people like festus keyamo even adams oshiomole with all his mouth, nigerians listen to them but once they make a name for themselves they start to get close to the rich n corrupt business people and politicians, look at the almighty dora akunyili that everyone thought was above board selling her integrity for a mess of porridge imagine all the people that have stood with akunyili even nafdac staffs who have braved danger and death to refuse bribes you think they will believe it if another person comes along shouting anti corruption and sacrifice?ebenezer babatope ,onagoruwa e.t.c ni

But should they be looking to "that great one" to emerge? Why doesn't an individual Nigerian feel like he can exercise his or her voice as well?

all these has reduced the average nigerian mindset to cynicism and siddon look attitude

For how long?

its very well for you to call people to the national stadium for a protest, but look at it from these people's point of view, what is stopping you from abandoning them if tinubu or yar adua's man  bribes you with some millions?

But by the same token, there's nothing stopping one of those people, to organize the protests, start the petitions, etc, afterall, THEY won't succumb to corruption or be seduced by the millions. So it's either they don't care enough, or they know they're corrupt themselves, hence siddon look while I wait for my turn.  shocked

people have resigned themselves to the way things are and don't want to die for a cause when the leadership of the cause will turn round to collect millions.

Again, should they be looking for a "great knight"? I'm thinking maybe enough people don't know the power that they can have in deciding who gets to represent and serve them,

Remember, these dictators, leaders are as brutal, and unrelenting as they are because they believe without a shadow of a doubt, that Nigerians are FOOLS and are scared out of their minds. And they will continue to demoralize and oppress them until someone with some courage or some people start making some very loud noise and prove them otherwise.
Re: Is It True That Nigerian's Are Really Cowards ? by Reese1: 7:11pm On Dec 27, 2008
Okay, a perfectly good example is that thread about the lawmakers already allocating N15 Billion for foreign trips and refreshments in 2009. That news alone is enough to make someone take to the streets!  shocked

But guess what the majority of the reaction you'll get will be? "Well, God dey, sha." "They've started again". "These politicians are wicked o!"

It's like somebody rapes you continuously, you're bleeding, you're dying, and here he comes with a knife-pointed foreign object to continue where he left off, he says "bend over' yet again, what do you do? You spread those cheeks and bend right over!, YET AGAIN!

Only in this case, a hundred something million people have their butt cheeks spread wide open! Bleeding and all!

I apologize for the graphic description, but it was the best way I could make my point.

while i agree with you on the first part of your comment,on the second part i think untill so called leaders do not have any grey areas and only a black or white solution to corruption
Reese1:

Well, if enough of Nigerians make their voices heard loud enough, I believe the politicians that keep betraying them won't keep coming back, no?

true, but what kind of influence will these nigerians gravitate towards?when you see hundreds of thousands flocking to pentecostal churches, its because that particular pastor or g.o is preaching hope and they trust him that he wont betray them, imagine if there was a visionary individual whose morality was not in question like maybe a pastor chris, adeboye or oyedepo imagine how nigerians will flock to the individual

Reese1:

But should they be looking to "that great one" to emerge? Why doesn't an individual Nigerian feel like he can exercise his or her voice as well?

well, there needs to be a symbol of change though dont you agree? its not like obama is the most handsome or eloquent but he represents what you guys want at this very moment in time, however that kind of person i believe is lacking in nigeria "great one"as i see it is relative, read something on yahoo news about some ppl literally worshipping obama somewhere in asia, while to his fellow americans he is just a guy who s there to get a job done, end of

Reese1:

true, but i still have to re iterate the comment i made earlier, nigerians both old and young will stick with and follow anyone they think will do the right thing, mko abiola wasnt the most honest politician,we know of his business dealings, coup sponsoring ,corruption e.t.c fela sang about it enuff times but the people trusted him enough to stick by his side even when his own children were lounging at home, no matter how much they care,it ll be folhardy to die over a cause that your leader wll turn round and receive a couple of millions,it has hapened in nigeria several times

Reese1:

Again, should they be looking for a "great knight"? I'm thinking maybe enough people don't know the power that they can have in deciding who gets to represent and serve them,

i see a re occuring word you used"great one" now "great knight" and i dont think you r getting the situation, its not about waiting for a great knight on a white stallion or a moses to lead us out of the wilderness, its about a rallying point, surely that is the sensible thing to do?even in health and safety, evacuation drills it is always banged into one's ears to go directly to the rallying point or look for the fire and safety personell and go directly to them, the moral of my analogy is when there is turmoil, dearth of leadership what have you,the best way to save the people or in this case have a coherent and wholistic approach to facing the behemoth of corrupt leadership is to have a rallying point who will in turn inspire and stimulate the people into action, this has worked all round the world from democracies like america to countries in disaray like iraq, afghanistan, like al quaeda e.t.c

i agree nigerians need to have courage and stand up to these people but who will start the process,i dont know if you r nigerian or not but if you r ready as an individual to sacrifice all and put your money where your mouth is,you think nigerians including myself wont fall in behind you??
people like awolowo, azikwe, balewa did and nigerians followed them
even adedibu as corrupt as he was had one thing going which is that these ppl know he had their back no matter what
gani fawehinmi is another prime example, even on his hospital bed suffering from cancer, nigerians still to this day give him overwhelming support, its just sad that most of the youths /present generation are not willing to sacrifice what the likes of gani and co have

how many of us have been to nigeria for a couple of weeks or month, not to go clubbn and sample suya but to go organize villagers and teach them their rights as voters e.t.c

peace rally and patriotism sounds good but education and election awareness is the key.  A literate and aware society won't be easily swayed by sweet talking politicians.  We would keep on holding rallies if the issue of education especially in rural areas isn't addressed.  stop selling your votes for a crate of pepsi and bag of rice too.

not to go clubbn and sample suya but to go organize villagers and teach them their rights as voters e.t.c

lol, same impotent people are passing powers of presidency among each other cheesy cheesy

Same crappy people with "Different" obligations to the country, yet we continue to see history repeats itself. Corruption here abroad bank there undecided

But does it really mean the citizens are cowards. Doesn't lack of education play a role? The country is not even organized. Is there really one president governing the country or do we have lil villages and town with it's own "kings and Oba(s)" doing their own thing.

If one doe snot have education, how does one know how to vote, the voting system, who to vote for, or even what is going on in the country one resides?

it is a fruitless effort trying to organise the people when [THE PEOPLE] will actually organise against you. tell you tru story, travelling from ojodu Berger to ikeja, refused to pay the conductor becos every time driver reached 3/4 of the road and dislodged all passenger.anyway the condo made so much agro and i still refused to pay till i reached my destination . can you believe that the driver reached 3/4 journey did a u turn , i got down unchallenged by the cond , low and behold a lady whispered to me , {egbon mo ti sanwo yin} meaning your fare have been paid for you, defeating all my effort to make my point.you see people will keep on defeating your effort all the time and this is one of many of my protest .

Guys, let's not forget the influence of tribe on this topic. Many Yorubas supported the deficiencies of OBJ because they could relate to him on a tribal level, the same way, many Hausa-Fulani people blindly supported Babangida/Abacha, and Igbos too, supported people from their area on tribal basis.

After what followed the January 15, 1966 coup by young and brave Nigerian soldiers, it would sum to idiocy to brand Nigerians coward. In fact, it is better to be a coward than a slowpoke or stupid. In my view, Nigerians are more of the latter.
