[b]On my honest view, it lies in positional play. Matic is not exceptional of he is left to do time defensive duty all alone. We saw it last season when Crystal Palace ran Chelsea down with waves of attacks and Matic was dribbled repeatedly.

Watching Crystal Palace go through Matic repeatedly over and over again, I said to myself, that would never happen to Mikel.

Why Matic gets rested over Mikel is Matic's ability to take risk. Just like the game against PSG, Matic misplaced passes, trying to force the Chelsea side to play well. Mikel will never do that but will play simple passes to keep possession. For a possessive coach, Mikel will get a thumbs up, for an attacking coach, Mikel will get a thumbs down.

I watched Pastore, Verrati and Adrien Rabiot go through Matic repeatedly but that won't happen to Mikel.

However, Mikel is not a tackler and Mikel does not express himself skillfully unless he has a defensive midfielder shielding him. So Mikel vs Matic is a preference of style.

They are both solid defensive midfielders but I prefer Mikel because he shields the defence better and gives the attacking players opportunity to express themselves.

Just like I prefer Hope Akpan playing for the Super Eagles To Onazi.[/b]

So Mikel on the bench does not make him poor. However, Tevez and Mascherano where once on the bench at West Ham.

Tevez played 26 games in his first and only season with west ham United, with 7 goals to his name and you said he was on bench? isorait .
While on the other hand Mascherano wasn't playing regularly , prompting rumours that there was financial clauses related to the amount of time he actually played.

Mikel is not just poor but beyond poor. just admit it, whether 'it's a case of preference' or not. Matic wasn't this good during his first stint in Chelsea. he actually worked hard to be where he is now. unlike a certain Mr. Snail that understand nothing like improvement.
Sturridge was sold not because he was poor , but he along with his dad were clamouring to be given the central forward role and starting berth.
good decision by Chelsea board if you ask me.

26 games is not 26 starts. So does that mean they were poor? There are many top quality players on the bench. That does not make them poor.
