Police arrest varsity student for stealing two-day-old baby
From Charles Ogugbuaja, Owerri
MEN of Imo State Police Command have arrested one Mrs. Chioma Nwachukwu, a student of Imo State University, Owerri, for allegedly stealing a two-day-old baby said to be the child of one Mrs. Nkechi Nwaogu of Akpodim, Mbaise in Ezinihitte, Mbaise Local Council.

Parading the suspect before journalists at the Police Command Headquarters in Owerri at the weekend, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Linus Nwaiwu, said the accused, said to have wedded last December, had been attending ante-natal at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri.
Mrs. Nwachukwu, a 400 level Optometry student of IMSU, according to Nwaiwu, had five-month-old twin pregnancy when it abruptly got miscarried which made her to look for alternative to please her husband said to have been expectant.
He disclosed that the suspect had exchanged GSM phone numbers with her colleague, which she used in tracing Nworgu to her home on January 12, 2009, when she was delivered of a baby. Nworgu was said to have been delivered of baby girl on January 11, 2009.
Pretending to be thirsty of water, Mrs. Nwachukwu urged her victim to give her some water to drink. As soon as she went in to bring the water, Mrs. Nwachukwu, who was admiring the baby girl, disappeared with the baby.
Efforts to recover the child proved abortive but the culprit was said to have been arrested when she went to another nursing mother, apparently to steal another baby to complete her twins earlier diagnosed so as to satisfy her father-in-law and husband.
She was arrested by a team of police officers.
The suspect later confessed to committing the crime, but Nwaiwu noted that the Imo State Police Commissioner, Mr. Innocent Ilozuoke, had ordered full-scale investigation, adding that the law would take its course in the crime.
He was surprised that a 400 level student of a reputable university could allegedly commit such a crime.

lost 5 months pregnancy and stealing sum1's own aint da issue. The issue is "wouldnt her hubby know that it aint time to deliver"? b/w, why didnt she tell her hubby she had a miscarriage?

If she miscarried a 5 month old baby and stole a 2 month old baby, how would she have explained the discrepancies to her husband? Or are they both dumb?

That story sef get k-leg. Stealing a 2 day old baby, how will she explain to her hubby in four months time that the stolen baby is actually theirs, when the baby would already be four months old at the time of delivery.

I am not making excuses for her but this rather extreme behavior might be a form of depression that resulted from losing the babies

She must be suffering serious grief. No one that is thinking straight would do this. May the police have some compassion and I hope she gets some help with her mental health.

But will she? Or will she just get condemnation?

Am not supporting her actions, but you can't blame her
Depression can be part of the problem
She might get lesser chargers, if her attorney can prove she was mentally sick, as a result of losing her unborn baby

So she was going to present two different babies and passing them off as twins. What a desperado. All to please a husband who will undoubtedly dump her nevertheless after this atrocity. undecided sad
