FlINTLOCK ’15 WRAPS UP IN N’DJANMENA. N’DJAMENA, Chad – The annual Flintlock exercise wrapped up today in N’Djamena with a closing ceremony that brought together senior leaders from over 20 participating countries. The Chadian exercise director, Brig. Gen. Zakaria Ngobongue, when bidding farewell to the guests and participants from different African and Western partner nations, who trained tirelessly in Chad, Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon and Tunisia, thanked the troops for their professionalism. “I am pleased to note that the progress made during this exercise was tangible and these results were reached thanks to willing participants.” Ngonbongue thanked partner nations for the quality medical and humanitarian assistance that benefited citizens in locations near Mao, Faya and Moussoro. Similar medical activities were also conducted in Agadez, Niger. The closing ceremony of the Flintlock exercise was also attended by the Commanding General of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), Gen. David Rodriguez, who thanked Chad for being a great host to this year’s Flintlock despite the security challenges the country faces. “It is important to recognize that exercise Flintlock 2015 was successfully conducted by Chad and other African partners while actively engaged in combat operations against Boko Haram. The capacity to execute real world operations while simultaneously training to increase capacity and capability, demonstrates a level of proficiency exhibited only by an extremely professional, capable, and disciplined military,” said Rodriguez during the closing ceremony. This year’s exercise was the largest Flintlock to date and has continued to build on the success of previous exercises. The three-week Chad hosted event included the implementation of a collaborative Command and Control and information sharing systems, which will remain in place for African partners to share operational information and intelligence with each other, as well as international partners. Over 1,000 personnel from over 20 countries participated in Flintlock ‘15, with locations in Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon and Tunisia. Ten flight crews from Belgium, the United States, Canada, Spain, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, The Netherlands, Italy, and the United Kingdom moved most of the troops and 500,000 pounds of cargo with 113 flights. In all the locations, each soldier received 150 hours of training. They also conducted four community activities, met with key leaders, and treated 1,800 people in several medical assistance clinics. Chadian and U.S. military, as well as U.S. Embassy personnel, also conducted outreach to an orphanage in N’Djamena, supporting victims of war, HIV, and poverty. With the support of non-governmental organization Spirit of America, $4,500 of educational supplies, hygiene tools, and basic items like blankets, sheets, towels, and mosquito nets were given to 59 orphans. The tactical portion of Flintlock 2015 consisted of small-unit combined training and activities involving partner nation counter-terrorism units and military humanitarian relief operations to help improve the basic medical, dental and veterinary access for some communities in Chad and Niger. As an enduring exercise, Flintlock is not focused on any specific security situation, but instead on developing security capacity, building professionalism, and strengthening bonds among exercise participants. Flintlock exercises began in 2005 and are conducted by the Special Operations Command Forward – West Africa (SOCFWD-WA) and sponsored by Africa Command’s Special Operations component to develop the capacity of and collaboration among African security forces to protect civilian populations across the Sahel region of Africa. Flintlock exercises strengthen security institutions, promote multilateral sharing of information, and develop interoperability among the partner nations of the Trans- Sahara Counter Terrorism Partnership (TSCTP). Through exercises such as Flintlock, the United States Special Operations Command provides military training opportunities to foster relationships of peace, security, and cooperation among all Trans-Saharan nations through the TSCTP program. Picture below is the closing ceremony of the 2015 flintlock with foreign entourage .

bidexiii: If this is intended to inspire it does not rather it exposes the mediocrity and corruption in arms acquisition that has been going on for decades unabated in our armed forces. Special forces of the NA still using antiquated AK47's without even optical sights, and those 35 year old MK3 Vickers MBT that don't even have target acquisition software or FLIR. Driving into a battle zone with the potential for a serious fire fight in soft skinned pickups (almost suicidal) is it a surprise our astronomical casualty rate, brave gallant soldiers sacrificed on the alter of corruption and ineptitude by the top brass and our political leaders. |

komekn:You know have said this time without number nothing works in. Corrupt society and it has eaten to every arm of the government, the nigeria army should not be buying T-72's @ these time it something we should av have ? We should be using t-90's,btr-90's and bmp-3. But during the military regime and rule was the time the military suffered neglect most, thanks to shagari and even jonathans regime. Military dictatorship and corrupt politician should be blame for the state of the nigerian armed forces ! 4 Likes |

bidexiii: I am somewhat perplexed and baffled, I know a good number of our officers are conversant, informed and knowledgeable would it not be elementary strategy to assume that the area will be littered with anti personal mines and IED's. Even if we don't have any mine clearing armoured vehicles (will be shocked if we do not ) we can improvise, its very easy to hook up a road leveller to a MRAP with a 10 -15metres impact gap. That will take care of all the anti personal and tank mines and most IED's Any frontal assault should strictly be led by MRAPS and the used hand me down T72's we have bought at over inflated prices. In reality we should have bought at least 200 but I doubt that we probably bought no more that 30. Bringing up the rear should be the myriad of LAV's we have in the NA inventory it's a disgrace that these vehicles lack FLIR and or any modern day battlefield telecommunications otherwise the Sambisa assault should be a night time assault. |

293 GIRLS AND WOMEN RESCUED FROM SAMBISA FOREST Two hundred abducted girls and 93 abducted women were rescued by troops in the Sambisa Forest, Borno State yesterday afternoon. In the military offensive, four key terrorists’ camps in the forest - Sassa, Tokumbere - and two other camps in the general area of Alafa, all within the Sambisa forest were destroyed and cleared. While the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman clarified that the identities of the rescued 300 female captives could not be immediately verified to be the abducted schoolgirls of the Government Girls Secondary School Chibok, he promised to send further details and photographs of the freed captives. Colonel Usman also made it known that a number of equipment and weapons were captured in the offensive. Meanwhile, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, has also said he could only confirm the identity of the freed victims and their origins after they have been thorough screened and properly investigated. It would be recalled that two girls (pictures below) were rescued in Yamtake and Bita when the troops cleared the area weeks ago. 1 Like 1 Share

bidexiii: The MT LB armored vehicle or APC was first introduced in the 1970's, amphibious it is not heavily armoured, in that regard it is not an Infantry fighting vehicle. There have been several upgrades over the years however it will be susceptible to heavy machine gun fire, but very effective against boko haram technicals. What we should have as a basic upgrade is thermal night visioning and target acquisition soft ware on all these vehicles. The whole eastern block is awash with thousands of these vehicles used and available for literally pennies they are dirt cheap, there are some with the 30mm armor upgrades which are far more resilient. I do no think this is the variant we have deployed. Nonetheless, these armoured vehicles are much cheaper than the soft skinned ranger and hilux pick ups we have in such large numbers that are sitting ducks for any kind of ambush. All NA troops in the NE should be in armoured vehicles as a rule not the exception. 2 Likes |

bidexiii: Nigeria did not make an official requisition application to the USA for arms we requested for arms from the USA across the pages of news papers. I am aware of a USA based certified arms contractor who made third party overtures to Nigeria but was rebuffed on account that the transaction was to be transparent and there was no possibility of egunje. I am talking of COBRA ATTACK Helis. Essentially across the West all arms transactions can be subject to legislative scrutiny and as such the opportunity for wanton over inflation and kick backs is almost non existent. This is why we procure most of our weapons through third party contractors as opposed to direct govt to govt diplomatic dealing of which very favorable terms can be negotiated. |

Not to worry, y'all, because the Boko Haram terror gang has accomplished its mission of ensuring that the Born-to-Rule philosophy is revived in Nigeria, by the installation of a northern Nigerian president who will ensure that the overwhelming majority of oil drilling rights owned by northern Nigerians are retained as such, ensuring that an equitable, nationwide distribution of oil wealth remains in the realm of fantasy for the rest of all time. Once again, the Boko Haram terrorists, having fulfilled their mandate of perpetuating Nigeria's economic apartheid system, will now collect their final paychecks and retire until their services are needed in the future. In THREE months or less from the date of this written prediction, the Boko Haram war will be a thing of the past. Mission accomplished. |

komekn:As I have Said in one of my statements those "red necks make more money from the black market". All western arms deal are subjected to legislative scrutiny which may result to kick backs as in the case of the six lock head C130 hercules but by the NAF in the 1970, some top USAF top red necks lost there jobs and dignity. Corruption is everywhere and more predominantly in the armed forces procurement. |

bidexiii: If I were a gambling man, I would wager every dime in my account, and throw in my home as well, that the Boko Haram war will END within 3 months or less from the time Jonathan Goodluck is booted from office to make way for the new federal Caliphate under Buhari. That bomb incident to which you refer was most likely staged to garner sympathy for Buhari, whose armored car suffered only cosmetic damage when that carefully measured explosive charge went off. Such a controlled explosion is of course well within the expertise of military demolition experts, who were most likely tenured by Buhari himself, to organize that fireworks display. Anyway, I apologize for this digression from the topic at hand, and assure you there will be no more asides of this nature. |
