The United States has yet to give the list of oil thieves to
President Muhammadu Buhari, findings by our
correspondents have shown.
Saturday PUNCH learnt on Friday that during Buhari’s visit to
Washington in July, 2015, the United States did not give any
list.
Sources at the US embassy said they were not aware of any
exchange of documents between American officials and the
President during the visit.
If there was such a list, a source said, it was not given to
Buhari during the visit.
The source said, “Though President Buhari engaged in
discussions on various issues with the US President Barack
Obama, there was no exchange of documents between
them.”
When contacted, the US embassy in Abuja declined
comment on the issue. The Press Attaché, Sean McIntosh,
said he had no comment on the issue. There had been
media report that the US government had given Buhari twotheir
separate lists containing the names of corrupt Nigerians and
crude oil thieves, adding that the President was taken aback
when he saw the list.
The list was said to contain the names of top government
officials who have been stealing the country’s oil, using
high offices to perpetrate the stealing and the other
containing the names of illegal oil bunkerers.
The report further stated that the list given to the President
by the US might compel him to probe the administration of
former President Goodluck Jonathan.
But the Special Adviser to the President on Media and
Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, denied knowledge of any list of
corrupt Nigerians reportedly handed over to Buhari during
his visit to the US.
He said he would not be able to make further comment on
the matter since he was not aware of the list.
“I have no knowledge of the list you are talking about so I
can neither confirm its authenticity nor those listed therein,”
he said.

To be fair, it would take sometime to thoroughly investigate the persons listed. But to be frank, there is no list of oil thieves given to us by the US. What methodology or instruments were used in ascertaining who qualifies as an oil thief. When were the investigations launched . what was the scope of investigation: some oil thieves only operate in lagos, relying on channels with links to the Delta. What was the duration of the surveillance program on the oil thieves. This and many more are the questions we need to pose to the government in order to stop them from playing on our intelligence

I recently listened to Mr LAIer Mohammed explain on Channels television how to the USA govt gave them the names and documents of those who have been stealing our resources following the last visit of PMB to president Obama at the white house.
Now I really wonder who is telling the truth. U hear one thing today and another tomorrow .

Make no mistakes , I , like many other good Nigerians want all those culpable in crude oil embezzlement and diversions to be brought to justice.

there are no lists. the u.s is just dribbling and treating this govt like a child. so like a child we are we are waiting for our father (u.s) to give us list of criminals. buhari needs to surround himself with men with vast knowledge on international relations, law and diplomacy. because it seems like the U.S have figured out that this govt doesn't know how the world works in this 21st century.

There was never a press statement by the presidency about the US given him a list of oil thieves. It was the media who started spreading the false news.
