RIP to the dead. But I don't understand why it is always a 'bigger deal' when an aircraft crashes than when a vehicle crashes. Even a passenger bus crash with much more casualties in terms of human lives never 'enjoys' this sort of front page reportage, both on traditional media and social media. Why is it so? Is it that lives lost to air crashes are more valuable than lives lost to road crashes? Just thinking out loud.

was it mechanical fault?
Re: Details Of How Bristow Helicopter Crashed In Lagos ..names And Pictures Of Victi by Nobody: 8:27pm On Aug 13, 2015
While this MAY be the picture of the aircraft when it was involved in an accident previously but THIS IS NOT the picture of the crash yesterday.

Dolts needs to stop pushing this image.

Heli had a classic tail rotor failure. This is unrecoverable from a flying standpoint and the survivors are just lucky that they were in lower altitude and impacted liquid terrain.

An example

RIP to the dead and speedy recovery to the survivors.
But,
This doesn't just make sense to me, just heard those victims live mostly in the Niger Delta.
You live in PH/Warri, work offshore PH/Warri, but have to travel all the way to Lagos to board a helicopter to the rigs. Then the chopper flies you from the Offshore Niger Delta all the way back to Lagos to join another flight or bus back to your homes in the Niger Delta.
Or maybe I'm missing something, it doesn't just make sense at all.
Someone please try to explain the madness to me
Buhari must probe/look into this fast

CHESSBOARD:
This is one of the disadvantages of Flying away from your Operational zone, why fly to Lagos when you can have a short fly to Ondo,....why must it be Lagos..... when I was in offshore, PPl do fly 2 hours to Lagos instead of 45 mins to Portharcourt. Most of these Choppers are refurbished, painted and sent down to the Zoo, Thank God for those Journey mercies back then

Bros, people fly 16 hours without problem, while we have seen aircrafts crashing as soon as they take off, I've even seen one crash right on the runway before even taking off. What will happen will happen, doesn't matter the distance.

The offshore facility is located at Ondo state which looks closer to lagos...it's not a matter of proximity it's rather an unfortunate incident.
RIP to the departed

Some deep offshore are closer to Lagos, especially the ones in ondo state, so it's shorter to Lagos than warri

@gabsky depending on the locations we do have people coming from Lagos to fly in ph also,u don't expect someone flying to (amenam, fpso, ofq, beauges etc to fly shoppers frm lag that would be approximately 2hrs 30min meanwhile the were just 45mins frm ph.

my friend shut up there, how can we prefer Lagos to our land of milk and honey? It is just ur politics of tribalism dat made d yorubas dat headed d oil industry 2 move their operational bases and head offices 2 Lagos thereby robbing the region of the revenue dat it is supposed 2 receive 4rm it. Now they are planning 2 build a dry dock for NLNG in badagry, where on earth does dat happen?

Helicopter will do far longer than 40 mins to fly from offshore around Ondo to Lagos.
The usual practice by most of the offshore installations in that environs is to do a 30 mins flight to Osubi airport in Warri/Aero airport or 1 hour flight to NAF Base in Port Harcourt. Bristow does not have an heliport in Ondo State(Onshore).
This case is just a sad one because I know Bristow has about the safest standards amongst other helicopter companies.

subnormal:

Bro it takes only 40 mins to get to lagos from their offshore base, I dont know how close it has tobe before you deem it safe.

Crew change would be to a central location based on logistics - such as proximity to airports through which the the crew, who could be of different Nationalities, and residence could get to their destination with ease.

Lagos ticks a lot of boxes from proximity to security to being a hub for easy travel.
