Teachers’ strike fall-out: 19-year-old rapes 9-year-old - Another rape victim for burial today

A 19-year-old, Master Olatunji Ilesanmi, who allegedly had carnal knowledge of a 9-year-old girl, was last Monday arraigned at the Ibadan Magistrates Court 10, Iyaganku.







Also, the remains of Miss Elizabeth Lawal, 9, who was raped to death through the anus by a 25-year-old panel beater, Mr. Olalekan Abdullahi, in January this year, will be laid to rest today.

Sunday Tribune gathered that Olatunji, an applicant, committed the offence on March 16, 2009, around 3 p.m at the victim’s parents’ house in Loko Street, Sango, Ibadan.

The accused allegedly took advantage of the teachers’ strike in Oyo State, which forced the students to stay at home, to satisfy his lust on Mariam. It was gathered that the accused was staying with his uncle who lived in the same building that housed the parents of Mariam.

Mariam is a student of a public primary school. The mother of Mariam, Mrs. Ramota Sadeeq, explained that she left her daughter at home at 2.30 p.m to visit a friend at Oke-Itunu area, from where she returned late when Mariam disclosed that while she was away, Olatunji had carnal knowledge of her.

The woman immediately reported the matter at the Sango Police Station. While Olatunji was arrested, her daughter was taken to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan for medical examination.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Sango Police Station, CSP Sybil Olufunmilayo Akinfen-wa, said that medical report revealed that Mariam had been penetrated several times.

The little girl alleged that Olatunji had penetrated her twice before the last act and that she was forced to open up to her mother because the pain during the acts was unbearable to her.

Olatunji was charged for indecent assault of a girl under 16. He was granted a bail while the case was adjourned to Tuesday April 7, 2009 for hearing. Meanwhile, the remains of Elizabeth Lawal would be buried today.
