People say “Get serious” not because they want you to enter a state of ‘seriousness’, but so you can sink to their state of ‘grumpiness’. In physics we learn that when elections are excited they move to a higher state; hmmm…

A jovial person does not achieve less. Neither does a stern-looking bully achieve more.

When they say it, what they really mean is stop been so happy, stop expressing joy, which I think is just cruel.

If you can whistle while you work, if you can get the work done with a smile on your face, then by all means don't get serious!

Work is not designed to sink you to state zero and leave you unhappy (although I think some employers earnestly try to achieve this feat). Work should be exciting, intriguing, and I dare say, FUN! grin cheesy

So is your work exciting?
