Hello, My Name is Omeiza. I am a UX Designer / Front End Developer at CKDigital here in lagos. If you are reading this. It's most likely you want to be a computer programmer, already a programmer or you have no clue of what to do next about your career.
I am not gonna talk about myself. I am just gonna give advice and if it applies to you. Then I implore to use it. I have taught and mentored a lot of people and I still teach till date. One common misconception I have noticed about we Nigerians is that we learn with the right emotions, but in the wrong direction. We are smart people, but the idea that coding is affiliated to hustling, making a lot of cash, having a kickass startup, being popular e. t c is very bad. I am come across creative people who lost it by forcing themselves to code because they feel knowing it all will earn them more. I have also seen logical thinkers who spend a lot of time pushing pixels via photos hop because they want to add that skill to all the programming language they know.
Finally, I have seen a guy who learned php, Ruby, mean stack and still wants to learn python Django but doesn't have a real job.
All these are just ways of shooting ourselves in the leg. Just pick one thing, be the best at that one thing and explore that thing till you become the go to guy. Trust me, all programming languages are the same, it
's just the syntax that is different. Also, companies that are looking for full stack developers are not to be trusted for your personal development. Learning too many of the same thing leads to mediocrity and you will discover you know less than average.
KEEP LEARNING, KEEP GROWING.

I started out wanting to know just java and general programming concepts like algorithms but as time went by, i realise the need to adapt to local market product like web design. This took me into Html, Css, and some JS. There is the always the problem of exposure at enterprise level. Most of us don't know what the needs of small and medium business are, its hard to imagine how things are set up internally and we end up loosing focus. If i had have the knowledge of what to aim at early on, i probably would have gone far with java and programming as an art.

As a programmer you can't escape learning multiple languages. What matters is the concepts learnt from these languages and the market. As you grow, you keep learning advance concepts ,with any language of your choice ,which can he applied to different languages. Aren't there polyglot programmers with jobs? Do the back end programmers in your company know only one language?

Sometimes survival kicks in and u gotta adapt. I interned at a startup and my boss has a policy of being "technology neutral". He is good at a number of languages and deploys his projects using anyone based on requirements and even speed. I focus on C# and PHP since my background was C++, but I have had to delve in front end designs too since we have a small team and our works overlap. As someone said, the Nigerian Tech Ecosystem is affected by a number of factors one of which is survival.
