From information gathered by our reporter on Saturday 14th September 2015 towards evening, a fuel tanker crushed a young man to death in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

This incident, according to eye witnesses took place at Eddy Excel Petroleum in Palm Street off Target Road, Calabar after several tankers had offloaded it contents and it was also learnt that a traditional marriage was ongoing opposite the filling station.

From information gathered by our reporter, the family of the celebrant had received full permission and warrant to host their ceremony with the road blocked.

All Vehicles were extremely restricted from using the road when the occasion was on-going but due to the condition and contents inside the tankers, they were allowed to go and off-load it contents.

From information the first tanker finished offloading and went away though there was a serious dispute and controversy that aroused between the tanker and the attendees of the traditional marriage. After the second fuel tanker offloaded and prepared to go, due to the narrow nature of the road he was pleaded to hold on for a while but he strongly refused, insisting that he is heading to somewhere, according to information.

One of the attendees of the traditional marriage told our reporter that the Man was smashed by the tanker unexpectedly, which suddenly changed the mode of the event. And that the people can’t really tell how the tanker driver escaped.

The friends of the Man Crushed Brainnews NG learnt angrily rose up with weapons, instantly killed the conductor to the driver of the tanker since they couldn’t get hold on the driver and troop into the filling station and raised the stations pump down, beating and sending all the staffs away and plotting to set fire in the station.

Due to the tension posed by the incident, the Atakpa Police Station, Operation Skolombo, Quick Intervention Squad and Fire Service Corp came to the scene in case fire is set into the filling station to avoid loss of lives and property in the area closed to the station. Police who came to mediate the situation were happened to meet fiery by the gang, as they were throwing drink bottles and stones towards the direction where the police van came.

From information gathered, the filling station was guarded by the police up till Sunday to avoid re-occurrence of another serious incidence.

To the bereaved family, information is yet to be gathered to what the Managing Director of the filling station will do to normalize the situation on ground.
