Governors of Nigeria’s 19 Northern States on Saturday in Kaduna endorsed the actions of Kaduna State, the location of last weekend’s violence involving Nigeria's Shiites.

by SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORK Dec 19, 2015

Governors of Nigeria’s 19 Northern States on Saturday in Kaduna endorsed the actions of Kaduna State, the location of last weekend’s violence involving Nigeria's Shiites.

In a communique issued at the end of a meeting, the governors stressed that all Nigerians should respect the law and constituted authority, adding that organization, whether religious or social, must operate within the law.

Offering condolences to the families of all those who lost their lives in the Zaria tragedy, and wishing the wounded speedy recovery, they endorsed all the steps taken so far by the government of Kaduna State to contain the situation.

They also expressed support for the decision of the Governor of Kaduna to constitute a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to examine the remote and immediate causes of the Zaria incident, and commended him for it.

The governors reassured citizens of their readiness to maintain law and order while respecting the constitutional rights of citizens to practice their faith without infringing on the rights of others.

They however frowned on arbitrary blockage of highways by unauthorized processions which inconvenience others, and resolved that processions must henceforth have police permit and protection as prescribed by the law.
The governors reaffirmed their commitment to take measures to revive and grow the economies of Northern States to create jobs and other opportunities, adding that efforts are already in top gear to review agriculture and industries related to agriculture.

The called on all Nigerians, irrespective of differences in political affiliations, religious persuasions, sectional or ethnic backgrounds, to coalesce into a single unit and collectively fight the nation’s common tragedies of poverty, destitution and illiteracy.

“The problems confronting us go beyond politics,” they said. “We should unite to confront our common challenges.”

Encouraging citizens to report suspicious and concerns to constituted authority, the governors appealed to the media to exercise restraint and decorum, and to avoid inflaming passions or stoking the embers of division and intolerance.

Why would a thread that supports violence and in violation of Nairalands policy #3 be on the front page?

you are talking as a Sunni i guess.

i have been following news for a long time. i have not come across a news that a Shiite suicide bomber blew himself up in a Sunni mosque. it is always the other way round. why?

the weapons i saw in the video are household tools like catapult, stick, and machete in contrast to heavily armed soldiers with guns.

i would advise you to put away your religious sentiments and talk as a human being. most, if not all people on this forum are not Shia, and not even Muslims, but it is out of human sympathy we talk.
Brother keep what the media feeds you aside, they are more agreeable to the west that's y yhu are been told they are peaceful. I am not sunni in any way, I don't believe in sects. But if want to know them then go and read abt them. As for they been suicide bombers, you have nt read enuff then. Shiite suicide bombings usually do occur frequently in iraq. Let me give a clue, Type in the name hassan ibn al-sabah and see what roles he played in undermining muslims.

i truly support the agitation for the division of this contraption called Nigeria with due respect. firstly , this country is not working and will never work. How come Northern Governors support the killing of unarmed civilians simply because they blocked road for religious activity when on every Fridays, roads, streets are blocked for prayers.
what if a southerner is the army chief , will they still endorse the killings.?
Re: Northern Nigeria Governors Endorse Action Against Shiites by saintfizzo(m): 4:24pm On Dec 20, 2015
Are U encouraging or discouraging road blockage... ur comment didn't quite say which faction u belong to
MindTwister:
Comedy of Errors. You kill Shiites blocking Kaduna Zaria way but allow millions others to block roads leading to major mosques across the whole country on Fridays.

Road Blockers United.

Stop killing innocent people and they all are until a competent court says otherwise.

it is now getting very obvious and logical why the army would escalate the road clash and later storm the Shiite Hussainiyah (religious center) and the house of Zakzaky to kill at sight and demolish properties after the army chief had already passed, and seven were killed on the road.

it looks like El Rufai had plans all along to demolish their worship center and ban their procession; just waiting for the right excuse and time. El Rufai cannot do without demolition; its in him like Peak Milk! the question now is will these peaceful people be allowed to conduct their religious procession if they seek government cover and permit? or would they be discriminated against? the military action and crimes committed against civilians are not justifiable.

Mischievous Shiite spotted.

These sorts of sectarian issues are the reasons why Nigeria and Nigerians need to properly stand up for secularism and stop this Sharia law rubbish that operates in some parts of the country.

IS IT BECAUSE IT IS BUHARI? I marvel at the way and manner we think in this country, worst of it the way we think in the north. It is just a few months ago that we all continually lambasted president Jonathan's cluelessness, I referred to him as the "drunken master of Otuoke", and nobody harassed me, and now because they fear the power of the media that brought them to power they want to castrate the social media, with Buhari firing the first shot in an interview with Sahara reporters' Adeola in New York, why, is it because it is Buhari? We demonstrated against pump price increment for petrol, government of president Buhari wants us to swallow the same pill we rejected a few months ago, yet some of my northern compatriots see nothing wrong with that, is it because it is Buhari? When three sons of Sheik Zakzaky were murdered during the Jonathan administration, El-Rufa'i called it genocide by the jonathanian army, now under Buhari more than 200 are killed, their mosque and houses destroyed under Elrufai's nose as Governor of the same state, he has not called it genocide by the Buharian army, is it because it is Buhari? Under the Jonathan administration subsidy payments were termed as fraud, and there were hues and cries to crucify oil marketers, Buhari even called it a fraud himself, we also thought so, Six months later the same Buhari is paying for subsidy yet nobody is calling it a fraud, why, is it because it is Buhari? We criticized Jonathan for keeping a large fleet in the presidential fleet and wasting monies on maintenance, only recently President Buhari's spokesman admitted 2 billion Naira was spent on their maintenance, when other presidents are even doing away with their jets, yet we sit down and watch helplessly, is it because it Buhari? Fuel scarcity is biting harder, value of the Naira is going rock bottom, inflation is now on auto pilot, while profits are dropping, purchasing powers are becoming weaker, yet we are asked not to query them, is it because it is Buhari? If we criticized Jonathan for cluelessness, we will also criticize Buhari for helplessness. While tribal and regional jingoist see nothing because it is Buhari, what I see first is Nigeria and not whether Jonathan is a southerner or Buhari is a Northerner, we. Cannot continue to be trapped in the closet of tribalism, regionalism and religious bigotry yet expect our country to remain one and grow. Yes! we might be of different orientation and background but what is good is good any where any time and what is bad is bad, I cannot be suffering and keep smiling because "my brother" is the president.
