I need someone with sound knowledge and good understanding to help throw light on the difference between computer engineering and computer science. God's willing my son will be getting into the University next year and his preferred choice is Computer Engineering not until someone started advising me to ask the boy to go for Computer Science. Needed some help so as to guide the boy accordingly. Thank you all!

I think computer science has to do with the software part and it's programs. Computer engineering has to do with the repairs of its component parts.

Computer science encompasses hardware and software. It means if covers also computer engineering. Engineering is purely on hardware.

I'll advise him to go for Computer Engr. Computes Science deals only on software, while Engr. has to do with hardware & software. It's my field so i speak with experience. Tnx.

I think he can go for computer engineering, because engineering courses are known for there prestige,and as for the software part of computer sci,its more of personal stuff and he has to work on it himself,
Although engineering can be more challanging,so you have to ask him the following qus
how sound he is in calculation and physics??
Does he love programming or networking??
And above all why he wanted to study computer science or engineering??

It depends on what he likes. Engineering encompasses a lot of things both the soft and hardware aspect. Computer science is also good but deals more with software though you will have overview of hardware. It is also easier for one to change to other fields of engineering as a computer engineer. If he can meet the requirements for computer engineering, I advise he goes for it. I'm very old in the system.
