UNIABUJA was founded on 1st January, 1988 though the decree establishing it was passed much earlier. The University started running fully in 1990 by matriculating its first set of graduates.

The University has 2 campuses – the Main campus located along the Airport Road covering about 11,824 hectares and the mini Campus at Gwagwalada.
